I saw Y/n shuffling around her room as I leaned on her door frame.

The heat was growing in her face as she struggled to pull her curtain across. Her teeth ground together at the soreness of her muscles.

"Here, let me." My hand grazed hers as I came up behind her. Her shoulders slumped as she dragged her feet back, the back of her legs hitting the couch that was positioned in front of the window. I steadied her before closing the curtains. Taking her by her arms I circled the couch and lowered her onto it as she held her head in her hands. My knee clicked as I crouched down in front of her, resting my hand on either side of the arm rest. "Y/n." I allowed my hand to land on her thigh. Then it hit me as my heard seared. "You're burning up," I frowned. Now I noticed how flushed she was even while she shivered. The sheen that coated her forehead, the wince with every movement "I'll get you some night nurse or something."

But she caught my hand before I could scramble to my feet. "I can't take that." She sighed as she dropped my hand letting it flop back down to my side.

"W...what can I do?" I pleaded to her.

Her voice was hoarse. "In the bathroom..." She panted as she mindlessly waved her hand in the direction of the bathroom, although it was completely incoherent.

I couldn't wait to decipher what she meant. I scooped her into my arm her head nudging my chest as I scuttled into the bathroom, perching her on the counter. "What do you need?"

She pointed at the mirror on the wall. I eyed it sceptically. It seemed flush to the wall not like a cabinet at all, but after a light push it revealed its contents. The shelves were crowded with tubs and jars and bottles of what seemed to be skincare items but woven between them were countless pill bottles, aqueous and saline solutions, and all to familiar small glass vials. My hands trembled as I turned back to Y/n. I held her upright long enough for her to grab a vial off the shelf, and jab around a pouch until she retrieved a syringe. She shuffled back leaning onto the counter. She was still finding it difficult to balance. I hoisted her up onto it, taking the pressure of her legs. It didn't take her long to pierce the vial and fill the syringe. I cringed at what was to come. I felt like throwing up. Had my dream been a sign? But then she did the unexpected. She lifted the hem of her shirt to reveal her abdomen. She pinched the skin between her thumb and forefinger before effortlessly gliding the needle into her.

I scanned her face, as minimal relief washed over her face. "Wh..what is that?" I muttered my mouth drying up.

"It doesn't matter." Her exhaustion had taken over.

I took her in my arms again, lifting her up and carrying her to her bed. I juggled her between my arms as I pulled back the covers. Her body quickly sunk down and moulded to her pillows. Her eyes were already closed, peace filtered on her. I grazed her cheek with my thumb. I pushed my knee back off the bed but y/n turned to her side snuggling her face into arm. Trying to pull my hand back I whispered in her ear. "Y/n..."

She moaned in fatigue.

"Y/n, my hand."

"No," she wailed, gripping it even tighter.

"Don't worry, I'm staying here. But if I lay here with you I won't be able to help but fall asleep and I need to watch you. I can't sleep. I'm just going to sit in that chair over there." It wasn't working. "I promise. I will be here. I will always be here."

She loosened her grip on me and rolled to her other side.

Watching her, I crossed to the other end of bed taking a seat in the seat by her window and then began my watch.
