A distraction.

The term kept swirling around in my head. I was lost. Zero clue. Zilch.

I was hoping by some twist of fate I would bump into Y/n again. I should have known better than that.

Weeks passed by. Day by day it became more and more difficult.

I had contemplated numerous times to use the tools I had access to my advantage. All it would take was one quick search and I would know how to find her. Not just that, at my fingertips would be all record of her. My therapist wasn't understanding me. His methods might work in some, but for me they were becoming redundant. Many times, I found myself heading towards Garcia's office. But I would always backtrack. How would I explain it to Penelope? She would ask too many questions and we all knew that Penelope wouldn't be able to keep it to herself. Especially from Derek. If he found out, he would have a field day and take it the wrong way.

I thought about going back to the hospital. But that was too risky. Seeing my dealer could tempt me. I had a lot to lose and no guarantee that I would find her there at all.

In the end, conducting my own search was the only suitable approach. After all, I was FBI. I should be able to find someone. I knew her name. Yes, I wasn't all that tech savvy, but I was a quick study.

A quick social media search yielded much more than I had hoped. Maybe this wouldn't be too difficult. I found her account after only a few attempts. Clicking the profile, a picture of Y/n flashed onto my screen. Scrolling down, I was disheartened. Her account was privatised. Just as I thought I was getting somewhere. My head slammed back in my seat. The amount of time I was spending at my desk chairs was wearing the leather.

"Reid? What are you doing here so late?" Hotch closed his office door behind him as he exited. All his movements were rushed. It was evident that he was late getting back home to his son, Jack.

I fumbled trying to minimise my screen. "Paperwork," I told him pointing to my virtually non-existent pile.

"Get some rest, Reid. It will be here tomorrow." Hotch padded down the stairs past my desk and towards the lift.

"Yeah, you're right." My plan had been thwarted anyway. Logging off the computer, my coat draped over arm and bag over my shoulder, I followed Hotch into the lift.

"You doing alright Reid?" Hotch mouth formed a straight line. He locked up from his phone. It was serious when Hotch stopped clearing up his last few emails before he got home.

"Hmm," I nodded.

"You would say if you weren't." Hotch prompted me.

"Of course." My voice broke through the sound of the elevator ding and the doors winding open.

"If you're sure? See you tomorrow." Hotch called out as he clicked the keys to his car, lighting up the area surrounding his car.

My own car was parked a few spaces down from his. Slipping into the driver's seat, my belongings dropping onto the passenger seat, the smell of coffee wafted around me. Then it hit me. My half-drunk coffee from this morning sat in the cup holder. The overwhelming urge for a coffee grew inside me. It maybe almost 10pm. That wouldn't stop me.

Driving towards my favourite coffee shop, outside the streets had started filling again with pedestrians heading home from dining or ready to hop from bar to bar downtown. In the midst of it all, stood my preferred coffee shop. It was a mere few minutes away from my apartment. I parked my car in my building and chose to walk to the coffee shop, which thankfully opened till late. I couldn't hack another bad cup of coffee.
