"Are you two like ... a thing?" I overhead Aaron ask Y/n as they walked off campus.

It wasn't Y/n that saw me first. Aaron hand been listening to Y/n's babble when he caught sight of me.

"What?" She squinted at him, the sun shining in her eyes.

Aaron sighed and pointed at me.

"Oh," Y/n waved at me. Turning back to Aaron, she pulled a face. "Be nice."

"I am."

She looked at him pointedly.

"I am," he reiterated. "Y/n are you sure about him. He's an addic..."

"Don't say it Aaron." She clenched her jaw. "You know as well as I do how easy it is to get caught up in it. Especially when you're in pain."

"Yes, but Y/n you didn't. You had the self-awareness. You got help, you found management solutions before you even needed them."

"That doesn't change the fact that I could have just as easily gone down that path too."

"I know," he sighed. "I... just be careful Y/n. Things are already not going for you how you planned. And something tells me throwing him into the mix isn't going to help."

She rolled her eyes at him then turned to smile at me. "What a surprise."

I pushed off the car and stood toe to toe with her. "Hi. We have at least 24 hours until we can legally be sent on another case. I wanted to see you." I brushed her hair behind her shoulder. "Can I take you somewhere?"

"Now?" Her eyebrows furrowed.

"Yeah... now... if you're free."

She opened her mouth to respond but before she could Aaron butt in. "She's not."

Y/n frowned at the rudeness that coated his voice. She shook her head at him. "I'm sorry Spencer but I have something go on..."

"No worries. I understand. How about tomorrow?"

"Actually, I'm going out of town all weekend, sorry."

"Oh," I shuffled back, licking my lips. They had become dry at thought of not seeing Y/n for four days. "Okay."

"Sorry Spencer, I would have told you sooner, but I didn't realise you would be back..."

Behind her Aaron brought his phone to his ear and spoke in short, hushed responses. Aaron cleared his throat. "Y/n, we have to go."

She nodded over her shoulder.

"Goodbye Dr Reid. Good to see you again." Aaron stiffly smiled at me and then stepped down to the car that had pulled up on the sidewalk, climbing into the front passenger seat.

"Yeah, you too." I turned back to Y/n. "Is everything okay?" I tried to hold her eyes.

"It will be" she sighed. "At least that's what everyone seems to think so. That's what Aaron thinks. That's what my parents think. I'm just not so sure..." she mumbled under her breath.

"Huh?" I looked at her quizzingly.

"I have to go." She lifted up onto her tip toes and kissed my cheek.

"Yeah," I leaned into her kiss. "See you." I clenched my jaw as her hand left mine. "Why does it sound like you're leaving?"

"I am," she softly smiled as she stopped up into the car.

"This is not what I mean," I said pointing to the car, but she was already inside, the door closing behind her. I couldn't see her through the dark tint on the windows as the car pulled away.
