"Hi you have reached the line of Dr Donavan, I'm probably drowning in research right now. Please leave your name, number and reason for your call and I endeavour to get back to you."
"Good Afternoon, my name is Spencer Reid I was given your number by Dr Chanita Holloway. She referred my case to you. Please contact me on this number when you get chance. I look for..."
But before I could finish my sentence the sound of the line altered, and shallows sounds of breathing filled the line. "Dr Reid," the voice gasped.
"Yes... um... hello."
"Sorry, if my voice sounds laboured, I just ran across the lab to answer." But she was definitely more even now.
"No problem," I chuckled.
"Sorry, it's just I've been waiting for you to get in touch. Umm. I have looked over you scans and notes. On the basis of that I would like to conduct some tests. Just some genetic panels, to rule some conditions out. Is that okay with you?"
"yes," I agreed, surprised at her vigour.
"Perfect," she chimed. "While we wait for the result I would like to schedule in some routine calls. It may seem a little repetitive to the sessions you had with Dr Holloway, but it will allow me to get a better sense of your symptoms and such."
"Okay." I was distracted by the passion in her tone.
"Amazing. Well. This Sunday works for me."
"Yes. Me too," I stuttered.
"Oh and just a note I will conduct all the sessions by phone bec..." then she paused. "Will that be an issue?" she veered off.
Oh so I won't be able to hear her serene voice in person, without the crackle of the line. "Whatever works for you."
"Thank you for understanding."
Was that distress I heard?
"No, Thank you Dr Donavan."
"Oh you can call me Maeve. Just Maeve is fine."
"Maeve," I repeated in triumph, letting her name swirl over my tongue. "I'm Spencer."
