Chapter 37

Bellatrix Lestrange paced the room with worry. She knew that he would be there soon. She glanced over at the disgusting body of Harry Potter, who was, as instructed, chained to the wall of their meeting place. Her heart raced knowing that finally the time had come. Voldemort had been sure of the boy's sole ability to destroy him. It was a relief to finally have him. The deed would be done soon.

He heels clacked on the stone floors as she moved back and forth. She wasn't sure what it was about the boy that seemed off. He seemed just as pliant and stupid as he had on the night she had killed Sirius.

A cold smile flirted on her lips remembering the spell that sent death to Sirius. The smile died as she thought about the Potter boy. Voldemort had made her swear to leave the death of the boy to him. She wished that she could end him, see the light fade from his eyes the way Sirius had. She could imagine it. His young face and mouth begging for mercy as she twirled her wand. The "Avada Kedavra," spell was too quick for her liking. When she had the gift of murder she hated to end it too quickly. Her favorite thing to do was use the Crucio curse until they couldn't hardly breathe. To hear his screams!

She laughed in the darkness.

For Harry Potter she might use a potion so that his mind could be lost in his failures while his body was tortured. Then she would-

She stopped her train of thought as footsteps sounded down the hall.

Bellatrix didn't bother turning around when the swish of robes filled the room.

"Is he dead already?" asked a bored Snape as he entered the room. She snarled at him knowing it was a jab at her own incapability of self-control.

"Not as dead as you will be if you don't watch yourself," she dared back. To her dislike, Snape wasn't even paying attention to her any more. He was watching the boy. He had become so good at hiding his emotion that she genuinely wondered what he thought about having his student chained to the wall. Her hand had already been on her wand but she had a mind to use it if Snape became sentimental about the boy.

"Where is he?" Snape asked absentmindedly to one of the other Death Eaters in the room.

"Coming," replied one of them. Bellatrix had her eyes on Snape and didn't break contact to check on who it was. There was silence in the room for a moment before Snape spoke up.

"After he is out of the way then all we need is Dumbledore," Snape said.

"It will happen," Bellatrix said with a sadistic smile.

"I don't know if the boy Malfoy is able," Snape said.

"If not then you will be there Snape," Bellatrix replied remembering how he swore the unbreakable oath earlier that year. Snape nodded and said nothing more.

There was a rustle of chains and they all looked to the boy. He was awake. She smiled.

There was a flash of light and swirl of magic as the dark lord apparated into the room. His white skin shone in the lights. He was a serpent with all the cunning of a lion. He was a masterpiece of power and death. Bellatrix smiled. Voldemort's eyes were on the boy who groaned.

The Death Eaters backed away so that Voldemort had easy passage to the boy. She could feel the tension build around the room as the boy regained his strength and lifted himself up. He opened his eyes.

They were glowing. Like green lanterns they glowed in the darkness of the chamber. This seemed to trouble Voldemort. Fear was in Harry's eyes. Something seemed off about him . . .
