Chapter 58

Damon Salvatore already had too many things on his mind to worry about some half god and a magic girl that somehow wasn't a witch.

As his irritating stiff of a brother, Stephan, led the two new comers down to the kitchen Damon rubbed his neck. When Lorem had blasted him off of her bed, there had been so much power, he was sure that he had a concussion. Luckily, with vampire undeadness, he would be fine within the next half hour. Within the next five minutes if he ate something.

He eyed Lorem who was walking, unafraid, in front of him down the hall. He wondered what her blood would taste like. Her white hair was messy from sleeping, but still looked like she had woken up to a photo shoot. He had been stunned by her beauty the moment he had laid eyes on her last night. Out of curiosity, because of her beauty and inhumanness in equal measures, he had surprised her that morning. He hadn't expected being assaulted by pure energy. Witches, even the most powerful, couldn't do anything like she had. He wondered what "Magical entity," meant.

"Stop staring at me," Lorem said abruptly, her voice sounding almost bored. Damon rolled his eyes and walked faster so that he was right behind her. Damon never learned to follow instructions. He leaned forward and dared to press his nose into her hair. It smelled peculiar, something sweet and tangy.

Lorem whirled around so quickly, he thought that she was a vampire, with super speed. She grabbed his neck, her nails digging into his skin and her eyes shining that mesmerizing gold. She had done it so quietly that Percy and Stephan continued walking, Stephan oblivious to the noise because of his diet of only animals which kept his powers muted. They were talking about the house airily.

"I don't know what planet you were raised on," she said steely, "But if you don't start treating me with some respect, I will make you feel pain." He smirked, because he knew it would get under her skin.

"Aw," he said, "That was so adorable, it almost sounded like a threat." She released him and smiled darkly, he couldn't say how much that smile turned him on as much as it made the blood in his veins turn cold.

"And you are an old sack of someone else's blood who is way outside of his league," she said, her eyes were literally glowing gold.

Damon sucked in a breath through his teeth and pretended to look hurt. Not even bothering to acknowledge him, she turned back around and followed Percy and Stephan. Privately, he studied her. Her lithe movements, beauty, and speed were obviously vampire. But her powers and her eyes were screaming witch. If she wasn't either of those, then what was she? Could she really be more powerful than he was? The arrogant side of his told him that he could take her down, but the other half of him questioned it.

He could really go for something to eat.

Instead of following them to the kitchen, where he was sure that Stephan would let them have Elaina's (Stephan's human/Doppelganger girlfriend) food that they stocked up on in the house, he went down stairs to where he kept the bags of blood that he swiped from hospitals in the area. Snatching one out of the cooler he began back up the stairs.

He thought of the hot blood that ran under Lorem's skin, and was suddenly sickened at the thought of eating cold blood. At the top of the stairs was Stephan. He was looking at him with his "judging face," then it occurred to Damon that that was his normal face.

"What are you doing?" Stephan asked, obviously not meaning at that moment. But Damon never let Stephan get by.

"Grabbing a snack," he said with a sly smile, "you want some?" he said offering the bag of blood to his brother, who turned up his nose at it. He was so irritatingly high and mighty sometimes, his denial to drink human blood. It made him so weak. Just to get under his skin, Damon punctured the bag with his fangs and began sucking up the blood. Even though it was cold, he could feel energy returning to his body.
