"Can you believe she called me a loner", I stomped around in my little bakery kitchen ranting to Liv
"Don't worry about what she says", Liv waves me off
"Don't worry, I shouldn't worry?! She called me a loner Liv, Ava loner", I threw my baking gloves on the kitchen table
"She isn't entirely wrong you know", Liv said pulling out a tray of cookies from the oven
"Are you my friend or hers", I crossed my arms on my chest. "You are taking her side"
"No am not taking her side but she is not lying either", Liv stated walking out of the kitchen to arrange the cookies for sale
"Well I did tell her I would make her swallow her words and guess what", i followed behind her
"What", Liv asked
"She dared me and you know nobody dares Ava Jones"
"Don't you think you are taking this way to serious", Liv dropped the tray and faced me
"You think? But she dared me", I protested
"Okay, since you are so bothered...how about we prove her wrong", she ate the left over crumbs of cookies on the tray
"How am I supposed to do that", I asked
"I have an idea", she grinned mischievously
I know that grin. If this was a cartoon am sure there would be a light bulb at the top of her head.
We spent the morning attending to customers, mornings are usually our rush hours. We have people trooping in to get freshly baked breads, cookies, pies, muffins and pastries
Liv works at the cash register taking orders and payments while I handle the orders. We have been working together for the past two years now and we have both mastered the art quite well. Although Liv doesn't own any part of the bakery, she has been here through thick and thin and she has definitely earned the right to be a co owner
After the rush hours passed and we could finally get a break, we both sit to speak about the light bulb which had gone off on Liv's head
"You know what I think", she says as we both sit behind the counter
"What", I urged her to continue
"I think we need to get you a man", she says
"Oh no, you don't miss a chance to bring this up, do you?", I rolled my eyes
"Come on Ava, it's high time", she says as a matter of fact
"But...
"But nothing Ava, and I think this is the best way to keep Valerie shut. Remember she dared you and no one dares Ava Jones", she throws my words at my face
"How am I supposed to even get a man, am to busy working here at the bakery plus I don't think Valerie is worth it', I shrug
"I don't think Valerie is worth it either but would you at least just try for me, I mean there is no better season to find love than now. Valentine is coming, love is in the air", she twirls around. "Am sure you can squeeze out some free time from the bakery"
"I don't think I know anybody who would be interested and am not looking to be a part of this so called valentine fever"
"Trust me Ava", she tried to convince me
"Nah, I don't think Valerie is worth the struggle, am not interested in any cheeky plan of yours
The little door bell rang drawing our attention, a young lady walks in with a toddler. He was pointing his little finger at a frosted doughnut with a huge grin on his face which made me smile.
"When ever you need to get yourself a man, you know where to find me", she whispers in my ear before attending to the customer in front of the counter
