I rose along side the sun, It's Sunday so the bakery would be opening an hour late than usual. I made my way through the horde which had filled the streets till I got to the cafe. The door bell made a chiming sound acknowledging my presence as I made my way through the doors of the cafe
I stood in front of the line looking at the black board right in front of me, they were serving varieties which made it hard to choose but the decision had to be made, I made my choice and found a cozy spot to settle in. This is the only day I get to enjoy my coffee while sitting down other than rushing to the bakery
I settled myself into a cozy spot while I awaited my order, after a few tick tocks at the clock my order arrived. I drew in a deep breath allowing the freshly brewed element of chocolate, buttery walnut and caramel fill my nostrils
The luxurious creaminess with a spark of foamy cream kissed my lips leaving a lingering after taste on my tongue. I was soon disturbed by the vibration of my phone.
I pulled the mobile device out of my pocket and caller read Mum. It was my mum calling, I sighed and and answered the call
"Good morning mum", i greeted
"How are you Ava, how are things at the bakery", she asked
"Fine fine", I replied sipping my coffee
"Ava dear", she called
"Yes mum", I answered
"You know your cousin Michelle, she just recently got engaged and don't forget we would be having a love feast the Sunday after Valentine's Day to celebrate . I would love it if you attend", she requested
I totally forgot about the love feast, my family holds a love feast every year for val. It is a small tradition we have made, or should I say they. We all come together and have a feast and after that we exchange gifts and play a few games
I used to enjoy the love feast when I was younger but now that am older it's not so fun. Everyone comes with their partners and I am constantly mocked by my cousins for being the one to always come alone
"I don't know mum, the bakery has been really busy you know", I tried to talk my way out of it, I really Don't want to be reminded of how single I am. Valerie is already doing a good job at that
"Come on Ava, you work at the bakery 24/7, you can at least spare a day, for me", she says softly
Knowing my mum fully well, she wouldn't back down so it would be pointless to try and argue with her
"Okay mum, I will try", i assured her
"And Ava", she paused for a while. "If you have someone special please bring him along, I don't want you to be teased or mocked. It would really be nice if you brought a partner
My mum has always looked forward to the day I would bring a man home. I know she gets hurt when my cousins makes jokes about me turning grey and being alone. I could tell from her voice that she was pleading
After a long sip i replied her. "Okay mum but am not promising anything, keep your fingers crossed", I said to her
"Thank you", I could tell she was smiling. "I would keep my fingers crossed and be hopeful", she ended the call
Mum wants Ava to bring home a man....let's see how this plays out. Thank you for reading
