5 minutes had turned into 10, 10 to 15. Until Dottore had finally had enough of my excuses.
"Y/n." He pulled down the book I had a death grip on. "It's time to go. Now." His voice just over a whisper this time.
"I'm getting to a good part, again!" I mumbled, stiffly pulling the book from his clenched fingers. "I promise, just give me a few more minutes" to think of a new plan.
"No. Enough is enough. I have run out of patience." With that, Dottore snatched the book from my hands and shut it close. "You can have this when we get back to the lab."
Dread filled my body, my escape was quickly coming to an end and he was winning yet again. "Dott-"
"Zandik, please there is no need for formalities." Dottore cleared his throat impatiently and waved for me to get up.
So I did, begrudgingly. "We can go to the lab if you give me the book back."
Bemused, he tapped on the leather "You won't just sit back down with it, will you?"
I rolled my eyes and shook my head, hand outstretched for him to give it back. The feel of the leather against my fingers was oddly calming, it helped ground me and at this moment, I absolutely needed just that.
He dangled it over my outstretched hand, allowing me to swipe it from him. "You must have really enjoyed learning about plants' medicinal values."
Ignoring his mockery I began to walk away, but he was hot on my tail. As he caught up, he placed his hand on the small of my back and led me out of the library. "Ladies first."
"Dogs follow," I muttered, walking through the opened library door with crossed arms.
"You will not be saying that when I have you submit to me, y/n." A harsh whisper breathed down my neck and I jumped slightly, completely aware of the lack of space between my back and his chest.
"I'd rather die." I stammered as a slight blush crept up my neck and made a home on my cheeks. I began to walk away faster in hopes he didn't see my flustered state, but don't get me wrong I wasn't blushing because of him.
The tall man took long strides and was once again by my side. For good measure, he dropped an arm around my shoulders, likely to keep me from running again. It's not like I have a choice anyway, I know I have to go back up there. It's not like I can just make another break for it at this busy entranceway.
My posture was stiff as Dottore led me up the stairs, I knew what was coming when we got there and I was not prepared for it. "I know what I did was wrong, but please don't cut my arm off. I need it."
"I'll give you a new one, a better one." Confidence must have struck this man like lightning for him to say something like that.
The moment I heard those emotionless words, I could feel the foreboding inevitable strike me in the heart and chain my mind in a cage. It makes me want to try and run again, despite already knowing that I really wouldn't make it very far.
Once we reached the lab he accompanied me all the way to his desk before leaving to shut the door. Locking it slowly, he spun around to see my figure against the mahogany, a soft blush present on my cheeks and hands tightly clenched against my chest.
"Scared, are we?"
"What do you expect?"
He took quick steps to where I was, leaving no space between us.
"Dottore, I-"
With a forceful grip on my cheeks, he quietened my pleas. "Pulse accelerated, light flushing of the cheeks, visible trembles. hm."
Is he assessing me? My eyebrow raised in confusion at his mumblings. Was I trembling?
It took only for him to mention it, but I was indeed trembling, just slightly enough for someone with a keen eye to notice.
"I noticed during our little walk. You're not really scared of me." He deduced, tugging on my chin and watching as my bottom lip parted from the top slowly in its dehydrated state. "Interesting reaction." A smile crept its way onto his face as he watched my blush deepen.
What is wrong with me? I should be pushing him away! He's literally going to cut my arm off!
It's all those mind games he's been playing with me from the moment we met... there is no way I'm actually attracted to this man-
"Warm to the touch, breathing unstable." Suddenly, his iron grip on my face loosened and turned into a soft caress, before his other hand slowly crept above the waist, watching as my expression harshened despite the blush presenting itself further down my neck.
"Let go." I mumbled, hardening my expression and taking a hold of his hand on my ribs, "this isn't funny." I'm overthinking it, I don't like this man at all. I'm just being played.
He let out a breathy chuckle, allowing his lingering hands to finally seize movement and leave. The warmth of his touch was replaced by a sudden cold draft and I immediately fought back thoughts of wanting more.
"You're going to cut my arm off. I see no reason for you to play your silly little mind games." voice breathy, face a scarlet glow, I chastised the doctor and watched as he took steps back and readjusted his clothing.
"Oh, on that, fortunately for you I will not be able to do that today. You have already wasted enough of my time. Her majesty the Tsaritsa is expecting progress on official business matters." Tucking a strand of hair behind my ear, he smiled at my rubied complexion.
"But remember this, the next time you pull a stunt like that, it won't just be your arm."
Pulse accelerated, breath quickened. This was the opposite of interest, this was horror and panic.
