I awoke in a cold sweat, lips cracked and mouth dry. Breathing was a chore and so was seeing anything at this point, my vision was so hazy all I could make out was the golden hues of the blinding lights above.
Pins and needles weaved patterns of pain across my laden legs. A dull ache in my right shoulder spread down to just below my elbow and I moaned in my delirium, trying to move around. Someone, or perhaps something, was holding me down.
Just then a sharp stab was felt and the scent of burning skin made its presence known, in my incoherence, I screamed a petrified, spine-chilling scream. It was too much, it felt like I was burning alive from the inside out. My writhing body was cold yet hot at the same time, it was all too much. It made me want to throw up.
"Up the dose."
Shrills and erratic breathing slowly halted, replaced by feeble moans, soft sobs and steady soft breaths until all of a sudden I succumbed to the siren that was sleep.
It must have been a good couple of hours before I regained consciousness again, my burning eyes flickered open tiredly and I felt as though a hundred bricks had been laid down upon my chest. Heaving, hair sticking to my forehead and cheeks, I tried to blink the brightness above away.
After what felt like a millennium, I was able to focus my vision and craned my neck down with a groan.
What I saw was truly something out of a horror movie.
Charred mutilated skin fused just below the elbow into a slim robotic structure, and raised fresh scars created a bloody seal that meshed human and war machine into one.
The realisation hit when I attempted to move my arm, it twitched slightly but the pain that followed was unbearable. I cried out in fear, shaken voice forcibly ripped from chords and into humid air, "What the fuck, what the fuck!" Pushing my body up the table with my legs to get away from it. But it was me.
And there was no escaping myself.
"Hel..." I whispered, "Help," Breath caught in my used-up dry throat. "My ar-"
"Ah, you're awake."
Dottore had entered the control room, a sinister smile was slowly making its way onto his visage and he lightly traced the robotic arm with the tips of his gloved fingers, "Well? What do you think." His voice hinted at his satisfaction with what he had done, it was almost as though he was relishing in my anguish.
"I," I had nothing worthwhile to say other than I had agreed to this. This was as much my fault as his.
"It hurts."
"It would, I had to hack and saw at your forearm for a long time. You're lucky I at least put you under. Not many of my patients get that privilege." He murmured, slowly clasping my robotic fingers with his and tracing the metallic back of it lovingly with his thumb, that smile still present on his features.
