We reached Aether's hotel room and he allowed me to stay the night. When we arrived, I spilt everything. The chip, my reality, everything. No stone was left unturned and as much as it was a hard pill for Aether to swallow let alone understand, it was necessary for him to know considering he continues to save me from disaster.
He did the same, he explained to me what the fatui was and why they may have wanted the technology I had. It made me feel ashamed and guilty for ever thinking Dottore wanted to help.
"Tighnari may be helpful in this area, I'm sorry I don't know much about this topic. But, I can go with you to Gandharva Ville! I need to visit him anyway for some business matter."
I nodded my head in grateful understanding, this would mean leaving the city which I was absolutely fine with. The further away from that toxic Colgate-looking asshole the better. It's not like I have feelings or anything and even if I did... Even if I had feelings for a psychotic kidnapper that tried to saw my arm off...
Begging my mind to think of something else, I tapped on Aether's shoulder and suggested doing something fun whilst we were still here.
"Good idea, have you been to the underground market yet? They host a wide range of theatrical performances and dance shows there."
"That sounds like a good idea, I would love to see Sumeru's traditional theatre!" and it'll help keep me from thinking of him again. Not that it's hard to, just because.
We took off into the city, it was evening right now and all the lights had turned on. It was a romantic sight, something I missed when I was trapped in the Akademiya lab.
"Oh, that reminds me."
I looked up to see Aether looking back, a hint of curiosity clouding his vision. "We have never seen Dottore without his mask. We met only once, and have heard many stories about him. I was wondering... if possible..." He stopped walking and began fidgeting with his hands.
I slowed to a stop, "what? what's wrong?"
"Would it be possible to describe to us what you saw?"
Ah. "You mean, when you electrified his mask off his face?"
"Yes, if you can. Please don't feel pressured to though!"
I bit my lip. The guilt was overbearing, even if I feel strong hatred towards him right now I could never tell them what I saw. Clearly if Dottore wanted people to see him the way he is he wouldn't have worn a mask. "I'm sorry, everything was a blur" I lied, smiling apologetically. "I didn't see his face at all."
"That's okay, I understand you went through a lot. So, let's just forget about it and try to have fun."
After this, he never asked again and I never brought it up. The evening flew by as we walked around the market and took in the wondrous sights.
Then, came the next day when Aether and I were to depart the city and enter the wilderness. It was a difficult journey, but thankfully I wasn't alone this time.
I know I don't have my bag or my phone with me anymore to document my journey in Sumeru, but considering what I had gone through I think it is safe to say, the report I was hoping to create is the least of my problems.
Now I was free to just concentrate on going home. No more intelligence gathering or worrying about what my lab manager would say, they would be lucky if I ever make it back again anyway.
