Betrayal

Time ticked slowly, I was waiting.

The sun had risen a while ago and was about to set soon. But I was still waiting, through apprehension and uncertainty.

For my so-called lover to make his appearance.

During the time I had to myself, I was able to understand the mechanism within the tampered Akasha terminal. I need to wear it, tap it to life and it will automatically begin its sequence. I knew my coordinates already, so it really was just a matter of time before I was able to make it home. Whether in pieces or one whole, I was going to go back.

And there was nothing that man, Zandik, could do this time. I was the one in control.

I am in control.

It wasn't long before I finally heard the sounds of rushed shoes tapping against marble porcelain. Door after door was slammed open; this was absolutely the work of Dottore's men.

I had already left the laboratory door unlocked. Patiently, I sat down on one of the countertops, fingers lightly pressed against the metal top as my legs swung below.

But I was so filled with nerve-wracking fear, I could already feel the sweat turn to condensation against the warmed metal surface of the tabletop.

My heart skipped beats with every door hinge I heard wail in agony, until finally, my door was opened by a white-haired Fatui man.

Shock ran through his features before he found his voice "She's here!" Barging in, he began to yell out like a siren. "My lord I have found her!"

This was it, there was no turning back now.

Shoes tapped roughly through the entranceway and my heart once again skipped a beat, but this time for a completely different reason.

"y/n"

Dottore, with his hands grasping the door frame, was struggling to breathe. He looked so out of it, as though he had been running miles to see me.

To see me. Only me.

How such a graceful man could turn into a mess with only my disappearance alone was astonishing. I really broke down this man's walls and ruined him from the inside out.

"Hello, Dottore." I innocently responded. "Please, come in."

He cleared his throat and straightened his white jacket out. "What is the meaning of this." His voice was tense, thick with displeasure. "Do you know how worried I was, searching day in and day out for you?"

I watched as he fixed his demeanour before slowly lowering myself off the lab's countertop; his face traced every movement I made uneasily until he lowered his features to my stitching. Perfect, soft lips turned tight and his chiselled jaw tensed at the sight.

Unable to answer his rhetorical question, in his emotion-filled state, I shrugged and placed the Akasha terminal around my ear. I already had my dust-riddled book and spare Akasha terminal hidden within the blue hood I was wearing. My green sheer dress was still caked in the blood and dirt from the expedition back here. But I couldn't care less, I was going home anyway.
