I don't know how long I have been walking for. All I know is I'm tired, and hungry and thirsty and tired and so hungry. The atmosphere was humid, warm and wet. Really not good for my hair, but at least I'm not getting eaten by a titan. So whatever.

The green vibrancy of the forest blew serenity in my face, but with every step forward to God knows where I felt my feet ache and my body crumble from the lack of rest and replenishment.

It wasn't until I reached what looked to be a tiny village, did I allow myself to take a break on the edge of it. This is such a pain, why does the universe hate me this much? I just wanted to go back home and sleep, at this point, I don't even care about the report I needed to write up for the higher-ups!

In fact, I was going to do just that. Sleep. Fuck it, if a tiger eats me, then at least I'll be free from dealing with this anymore.

And with that thought, I ignored my survival instincts, laid down under a tree and closed my eyes. Village-shmillage, I'll just go later, it's right there anyway. If I don't get at least an hour of nap time right now, I might actually not make it into the village anyway so like... this is totally called for. I need this.

It wasn't long before I fell into a deep slumber, which was disturbed two (or maybe three?) hours later, a soft rocking of the shoulders and a panicked "can... hea...me?" was heard, words fading in and out as I grasped at consciousness. With squinted eyes, blinking rapidly, I took in the sight of a green-haired girl towering over me. She seemed... scared?? no no, that's not it. Confused? no that doesn't seem right either... Gassy?

No, none of those fit the look on her face. She was clearly feeling something, I was just too out of it to tell. "What...?" I managed to breathe out, before sitting up against the tree slowly and peering at the girl with tired eyes. "oh"

Sense seemed to finally kick me in the teeth, I looked around and realised where I was, I fell asleep on the outskirts of the village? What am I, stupid? Why did I succumb to sleep when safety was an arm's length away?!

Fully awake now, I faced the suspicious girl, who by the way looked worried sick- Worried was the word I was looking for, jeez.

With distrust evident in my eyes, I questioned her in an authoritative tone.

"Who are you?"

"Oh sorry, I forgot to say who I was!" She awkwardly laughed it off and cleared her throat, "Trainee Forest ranger, Collei here! I was just checking the streetlamps when I saw you passed out! Are you hurt anywhere? Can you get up? If there is anything you need me to do, let me know! Oh, I could call master Tighnari here if you're injured, he's grea-" etc etc etc. I blocked her out and started thinking of the events that led me to this moment and what my next course of action should be. The girl looked to be younger than me, if I were to slam her head against this tree right now, she wouldn't be able to fight back, right? I could escape into the village and find some supplies. Maybe, just maybe, I could even find a way to fix this damned chip so I can get the hell out of here. Then again, in the previous alternative reality I was stuck in, there were kids fighting a war. I still have no idea what this place is all about and I'm a shit fighter.

Collei, looking rather empathetic with every word she spoke, had at some point during her monologue gotten up. It looked like she wanted me to follow suit.

I'm not sure if I should be wary of her, she doesn't look like a threat. Although, looks can be deceiving. With that, I stated "Wait, I'm not going anywhere. I hardly know you."

"Please, we need to get you some medical attention, we're only going to the village to visit master Tighnari. Like I said before, I'm here to help and so is he." She stated, matter-of-factly.

Why was she so hell-bent on getting me medical attention? I'm not injured, and this is not my bloo- oh right. the blood. Also, the village? She's going into the village? Well, that does help me out and it wouldn't hurt to have someone on the inside to assist me with a couple of things. Like finding me somewhere to sleep or getting some food in me. Oh God, I'm so hungry.

Despite my revelations, I hesitated slightly. "Okay, I'll follow you to this Tighnari person. But if anything happens, I... I won't hesitate to" To what? All I know how to do is run and hide at the first sign of danger. "To get" Get?? come on think, what would those badass characters in the movies say? "to get physical?" there is just no way my brain let my mouth voice those words out loud.

"Uhhh huh." Collei smiled slightly. "Don't worry!" She laughed a little. "You'll be fine with us, Forest ranger's promise!"

How embarrassing.
