Hey readers, if you've kept up with my story up to now, congratulations! Don't be a stranger and hit me up now! xD Anyways, I just updated a new story that I'll be working on the side called "GATE Origins," check it out if you like this story, I'm going more in-depth with details of characters and stuff, so, yeah, see you there!
The Morris' had treated us three with a steak and potatoes dinner, a seemingly common dish, but the way that they made it placed it on a whole different level. The mashed potatoes were just perfect wi-... You don't need to know how good the food was.
Mrs. Morris scowled at the three of us for almost the entire dinner session.
"I don't see why you needed to ask for these kids, Travis. All you needed to do was go out tonight with your father's shotgun and show those monsters what we do to people that try to ruin our livestock!" Mrs. Morris had scolded her son.
After her comment, I felt out of place, sure that Keita and Riku did as well, and ate in relative silence unless addressed.
Travis sighed, "Mama I tried, but I told you how big those g****n things were! Believe me, I shot like h*** at them, but they ran off quicker than my bullets!"
Layla placed a hand gently on her boyfriend's shoulder and spoke soothingly, "Honey, we know. And it's perfectly fine that we invited these young men to take care of it for us. They seem capable and I'm sure they'll do their job."
Travis shrugged Layla's hand off of his shoulder and scoffed, "You're only pro-talent because your ex-boyfriend is one... Your daddy wasn't beaten and inch from his life by one..."
Layla hung her head as if what he said was actually true, "I'm sorry..." She said simply before walking away with her finished plate.
The air was tense and it seemed like our only protection, Layla, had left. I cleared my throat and addressed Travis.
"Don't worry about us, Mr. Morris, we'll be out of here after we finish our job..."
Travis grunted agreeably and returned to his food. Mrs. Morris took our empty plates and left to go wash the dishes made from the dinner. I never did get to meet Peter Morris or get to the root of why his family was so strongly no-talent...
----------
The crickets were chirping up an entire symphony that seemed like it would never end. The sun had already set hours before, leaving us three students to the dark cold of the countryside.
"When do you think they'll be here, Shizuo?" Riku said, his outline being faintly visible in the white light of the moon, whose radiance was bright, but whose light was dim.
"Mr. Morris had said that they arrived around 1 in the morning," I replied, "And it's already 12, it's almost time."
Riku nodded and rubbed his arms, "Hey Shizuo, think we can get a fire up in here?"
I laughed a bit before extending my right palm in front of me at the floor, "Of course, Riku."
With that, I shot forth a bright red flame onto the ground that expanded into a contained fire. The flame was 2 1/2' wide and 3' tall, making it large enough to provide heat for the three of us. Keita ignored the fire and continued to stare at the barn, as he had been doing so since we arrived to our post.
"They're here," Keita said calmly.
Riku looked up at Keita from the ground, in which he was trying to draw as much heat as he could from the fire, "What?? It's barely 12 though..."
I grinned and ignited my arms, looking at Keita, "I can feel them too..."
Riku stood up and brushed off his jeans, "Dang it, and I just sat down too..."
