The GATE Academy [Please read description]

Chapter 44: Demon King Hiei

I shook the Demon King's hand again and accepted his profession. He was undoubtedly a demon, and his authoritative presence suggested him to be one of status, so in the end, it made sense.

"Not a surprise?" Hiei asked me, a grin on his face.

I took my hand back and shook my head, "Not at all."

"Cool," he replied. Now that things had calmed down for him, Hiei's eyes seemed to shift into a relaxed yellow-gold color. The Demon King reached inside his jacket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. He held the pack up to me.

"Want one?" he asked, but before I could reply, he took one out and put the pack away, "My bad. You're still a high schooler."

Hiei raised the cigarette to his lips and lit it with a small flame from the tip of a finger. He sighed and turned away from me, blowing a puff of smoke before talking again.

"So what's your plan now, Shizuo?" he asked me, "You may have been able to storm through them under Kaiser, but that was just a taster. I don't recall there being reports of any generals being posted there, save for Chaor, but from what I heard, Abraxas ridded of him."

"If you think I'm not strong enough, then you're wrong," I told him sternly, "I'll do whatever it takes to get Faith back."

Hiei lowered his cigarette and turned back to face me, "What if one of those things include getting stronger, hm? Think about that?"

Hiei walked past me and started towards the house. I followed after him.

"Where are you going?" I asked him as we walked.

"This was a request, right? I'm wrapping it up for you so we can get going."

"'We?' What are you talking about?" I pressed.

Hiei stopped and scoffed, "Isn't it obvious? I'm going to help you get your girl back, and you're going to help me take down the Dark Brigade."

After Ginzu and I closed the deal with the Morozovs, Hiei teleported the three of us back to the front of GATE. I wonder if every Demon King had a way of teleportation because Keita had his Folding and Tsukara seemed to have something as well. Interesting thought.

It was already night time here on Ascalon, but I checked the time to get the exact time. We had actually went back to yesterday, the 2nd, at 11pm. The sudden switch in time zones really had me messed up, but either way, after all that happened today (or I guess tomorrow?), I could've used a good night's sleep.

"It's been a long time since I've last been here..." Hiei said as we stood inside of the school gates. He had an air of nostalgia and wore an amused look on his face.

"And how long ago would that be for you?" I asked him. It wasn't explicitly taught, but there was mention of a demon presence at the GATE Academy at its origin during WWII. There were rumors that, apparently at the academy's conception, demons fled from Hell to find refuge at GATE.

Hiei smirked and held his hands out, as if to showcase himself, "You're looking at the first graduating class of the school."

Ginzu peered over at Hiei, his expression in awe, "No way, but how?? You're a demon... Demon King on top of that too!"

Hiei chuckled at Ginzu's surprise and pointed at me, "Don't you know that there are demons at GATE currently? Shizuo's own friend, Keita, is an ex-Demon King himself. And I believe you have a certain cat demon from my kingdom here as well, her name slips me, but her father, I remember well..."
