Nitro
She keeps wringing her hands. She's nervous and I'm guessing it has to do with everything that has happened to her the past few hours. Lawman also mentioned that it's triggering her mom's death, so I'm sure that also has a lot to do with it.
I find myself wanting to reach out and hold her hand to calm her but I'm afraid that will only make her more nervous. Besides, Lawman has already warned me not to touch her. I'm only here to protect her and nothing more. Not to mention, she's already spoken for, even if it is by a motherfucker that treats her like shit.
We're a couple of blocks away from the diner when a car pulls out in front of me as if he's trying to hit me. I swerve and barely miss him.
"Fuck" Lily says as she turns to look behind us at the car.
"Breathe, Little One." I keep my voice low and calm as I look in the rearview mirror to see the car is now following us.
"Hold on" I tell her calmly before taking a quick turn to the left to try to lose them. The car can't turn in time and flies past the road. I can hear Lily's breathing pick up and I glance at her.
"Little One, slow deep breaths for me." I demand in a calm voice, and she does as I tell her to.
I reach the end of the street and take a right, noticing the car is behind us once again. Looking in the rearview mirror, I notice a guy begin to hang out the passenger window.
"Get down now!" I demand and as she ducks down, the sound of a gun goes off and I swerve to the left causing the bullet to hit the passenger side mirror. Are they trying to kill her?
"You, okay?" I ask glancing over at her. She's still trying to slow her breathing as shock is written all over her face.
"Yes" she replies, and I can tell she's still trying to register what the fuck is actually happening.
I turn down another street and attempt to lose them again. Looking in the rearview mirror, I seem to have done just that, for now anyway.
Pulling out my cell, I press Spike's number to call him. He's one of the men I left behind at the diner, and the club's tech guy. He joins us for most of our runs because I never know when I'm going to need a man with his capabilities on the road. Plus, he's a damn good shot and I'm probably about to need him.
"Yes, sir" Spike answers sounding tired.
"Time to wake up, brother. I'm two blocks out and we have a tail." I tell him looking in my rearview mirror for them.
"Can you shake it?" he asks, and I look around again.
"Trying. Looks to be a black Cadillac small SUV, new body style." I look in my rearview mirror as Lily looks out her window trying to spot them.
"He's back on us." Lily says calmer than she's been all night. I glance over at her and watch as she pulls up her hoodie to reveal a lace bodice with a small .380 tucked inside of it against her stomach. She's fucking packing. Fuck me.
"Fuck, what are you doing with that, Little One?" I'm trying to decide if I'm worried or fucking turned on.
"Protecting myself." she says irritatingly as she checks the chamber to see if it's ready to go. Fuck me, she might know what she's doing. And yeah, that's fucking hot.
"Who's that?" Spike speaks up and I can hear the excitement in his voice.
"Lily, Lawman's daughter." I respond, pulling out the hidden unmarked 9mm gun from under my steering column.
"He has a daughter" Spike's shocked voice vibrates through the truck's speakers. I ignore him and hand her the unmarked gun.
"Here, use this, Little One, it's unmarked." She grabs it from me and places hers in the open console between us.
