"What the total fuck is this!" Jake exploded.I took my hands off Melanie's cheek. Melanie's face turned blank as she noticed her brother's reaction. With one hand, she covered her lips. I rose up and stood there, saying nothing. I could see the rage in his eyes. He just arrived home since Melanie and I had no clue he would be home so soon.

"Jacob, this is not what it looks like," she told him. Jake's rage grew as he entered and closed the door. He pointed his finger at me, as if kissing her was my fault. She was the first to kiss me.

"You're still in mourning over the loss of your girlfriend, and now you're doing this to my little sister?" he shouted angrily. His brows were wrinkled furiously. I remained silent as he tried to hurt me, but I didn't want to hurt him any further. I shoved my hands into my pockets.

Melanie literally walked up to Jake. Jake couldn't look at his sister since his gaze was fixed on me. "Jake, please don't do this stuff again," I eventually begged. "She kissed me, which was not our intention."

"Daxton," she shouted as she turned her head to look at me. She glanced at me while she was trying to defend me.

"Are you trying to stand up for my sister?" He stated explicitly that. When his face turned that bright red, his rage intensified. He tried to break free from Melanie's grip, but it didn't work. He lunged at me and hit me in the face.

"Fuck you, and don't try to interfere with my sister. I told you and Laine not to be more than friends. You guaranteed that rule, Nathanson, and you broke it," he hissed. I collapsed to the ground, and my eye began to hemorrhage.

"Jacob! Stop!" She screamed at him and ripped his arms away from me. "It's my fault I kissed him, and I don't mean it because he suddenly lost his girlfriend, Amanda."

"You're meant to be selfish to everyone, but suddenly you're being too good to him?" Jake inquired.

"Because I loved him!" Melanie acknowledged this as she pulled Jake away from her. Jake was dumbfounded before pointing his finger at her. He scoffed at her, saying nothing.

"You're dead, you dickhead," he snarled before exiting the room. Melanie, on the other hand, began to cry uncontrollably. That was how swiftly she rose up after telling Jake she loved me. What were the factors that led her to fall in love with me? While sobbing, she fixed her focus on me. She went straight to hug me. I remained there for a moment before wrapping both of my arms around her.

"I am very sorry," she murmured regretfully, sobbing. While my eye was bleeding, she touched it. "This looks dreadful, but let me take care of you before you leave home. All I need to do is talk to my brother about it."

"Are you madly in love with me?" I questioned her, my gaze fixed on her. While she was still sobbing, she fixed her gaze on me. She didn't want to say anything, but she did say she wanted to keep operating on my eye, so I had to go home.

Meanwhile, I went home with an ice pack on my eye and a bandage on my hand. Because my eye hurt, I had to lie down in bed. I removed everything and changed into boxers and a black tank top. Jake would never attack me before.

I was skipping and ditching school and football practice a few days later. I didn't want to go to school with a black eye. Mom noticed my eye and worried what the heck had occurred. She approached me and informed me that Jake was upset with me because of something he dislikes, but I declined to discuss it further. I basically wanted to skip the game on Saturday, which I desperately desired. I didn't want the coach to see how I looked.

When I glanced in the mirror, it was swollen. Mom decided to notify the school that I was unwell and depressed at the same time, and they believed her. I continued staring out the window, where I could see Melanie and Jake bickering again and over. They were agitated, but determined not to speak to anyone, particularly my family.
