Five days later, after discovering the truth about Kylie and Vivian. I felt horrendous for Josie and the real Melanie in real life. I attempted to break free from these stupid chains. I had used all of my rage and energy. All I wanted was to be at home with Mom, protected. Mom was most likely concerned about me.
Kylie and Vivian either fed us food and drink or took the duct tape down so they could feed her. If Josie says anything, she will be assassinated. I needed to find a phone so I could contact my mother, the police, and Jake to let them know where I was. Kylie ultimately told me that I was a suspect in Amy's murder, something I had never done. Kylie told the officers about me while speaking in a British accent, and she bailed me out with money from her late adopted parents.
This basement was exceptionally hot and I felt like I was dying down here. I stank like hell. Everything in my body, even the dampness. I heard some noise and it was Josie trying to grab me and Melanie's attention by removing the duct tape so she could feel her hands again. She began ripping it and eventually got the duct tape out of her lips.
"Finally, bitches," Josie said quietly. She first went to Melanie for assistance in breaking the chains, but they didn't want to make a sound. Melanie softly informed her that there was a key beneath the rug in front of the door. Josie proceeded gently to fetch the key, which she discovered under the rug. She returned to Melanie, and the door was unlocked. Melanie stood up, exhausted after not walking for months. Josie positioned her body so that Melanie could stand up straight. For the first several minutes, it was difficult.
After that, they both assisted me in unlocking the key chains, and I stood up. "I love you and want you. I broke up with Kylie or a certain thing of shit from her," I informed Josie. She stepped forward and kissed me. My heart was secure and throbbing with her after the kiss.
"You guys are actually cute together," Melanie commented as she started walking.
"Josefina..." I stumbled.
"Daxton, I love you, too," Josie said as she kissed me again.
"We need to find the key to the door that will allow us to escape," Melanie explained. "I don't want to die, and I'm done hiding for years. I wanted to go back to school and needed more. I needed to visit Jake and tell him everything."
