Time had passed. I took care of my mother, but she kept calling my father's name. She also attempted to kiss me, but I had to remind her that I am her son, Daxton. It was an insufficient start, but I knew she'd get there in the end. The doctor stated it would just be temporary. It drove me insane because I had too many thoughts circulating in my mind. The national state championship was rapidly approaching and I was looking forward to spending time with my girlfriend, my family, and school. I was fatigued from everything, and all I wanted to do was go to the Bahamas for vacation. The Bahamas was my dream vacation spot because it presented an escape from all I had to cope with. I'd never felt this anxious before, and I struggled to sleep throughout the school days.

My mind has been distracted with football lately. Jake and I weren't on speaking terms right now, but I hoped that if we won the title, we'd be able to work things out. But the biggest problem was that I was in a relationship with Melanie and didn't want to bother telling them how happy I was with her. Melanie and I were keeping things low-key for the time being, but I was feeling bad about this. I shouldn't keep him concealed since this is not who I am right now. I felt like I'd changed a lot, yet I'm still the same Daxton Nathanson everyone knew. People said I'd changed a lot after Amy's untimely death. They had no idea what I was going through this year.

It was the day of the national state championship game at my home game a few days later. I awoke feeling tremendously nervous, which made me want to puke. Melanie texted me and left a voicemail saying she couldn't wait to watch me play on the field. She was a cheerleader, and I knew she would be cheering for me the most. Mom unexpectedly knocked on the door to check on me, but she still addressed me as my father's name. "Are you sure you're ready?" Mom remarked, smiling at me. I smiled at her, but it quickly vanished. I directly grabbed my stuff, then left the bedroom, so mom could drop me off there.

Melanie was watching the game later on while wearing her cheer outfits and the pom poms she had on her hands. She was jumping and shouting. "Go, Daxton and the team!" She roared. Jake was standing next to me, but he was staring at me. He was behaving strangely, but I had to get away from him. As he put on the helmet before the first quarter began, his hair was soaked and submerged in water.

"Jake, good luck for us and the team," I said. His gaze was drawn to mine, and he smiled briefly. He tapped the back of my shoulders like he was my guy. I gave him a little grin, but it was better than not speaking to him at all. I didn't want things to fall apart further.

Coach was discussing the plays with me and the rest of the team, and he was a little rigorous that day. He wanted today to be an unforgettable day for him and the team. Since I was a kid, I have yearned for this trophy. I looked at Mom, who was sitting next to Vivian, informing her that I was her son, playing in my final football game of the season and during my senior year. I couldn't believe she was smiling and waving at me. She got up and shouted. "Let's go, Daxton Nathanson!"I couldn't be more proud of my mother. This was something I had to do for my father. He was in paradise; however, and I was aware that he was watching over me. I wanted to make him even more proud. My father was an NFL player, and I wanted to pursue my aspirations.

The game began as soon as the referees blew the whistle, and it was the most intense game yet. The game was the hottest state championship game in history. The cheerleaders performed acrobatics, dances, and other activities that entertained those in attendance. I did my part and played my game. Coach was instructing me about several plays that I could do with my teammates. It appeared like the other side had already studied my plays, so I had to work even harder to make the other team struggle. Both teams struggled at the start.

The clock ran out after four quarters, and we won the championship. We had three more points than the opposing team. The fans were shouting, and it was a tremendous game. "Dax, you did fantastic! Congratulations!" We won the national state title!" Coach stated.
