The Next Step

Opening with Jaune's perspective.

I'll be giving the town a name just for the sake of it.

After two weeks of travel Ruby, Jaune, Ren, Nora, and Qrow had all made their way to the continent of Anima where Mistral was. However, they still had a long journey left to go. Not long after having made it to the continent the group had come across a village named Sarton.  After a long trip so far they all decided to rest for one night. The next day they all heard about a powerful geist grimm that made it difficult for the villagers to trade with other towns or hunt for food in the surrounding forests. The group had decided to help the town in defeating the grimm. Jaune was now traveling with the rest of the group currently missing his weapon and armor as they searched for the grimm. As Jaune traveled with the group Ren began to talk with him.

Ren: Hey Jaune, how are you holding up?

Jaune was a little caught off guard by Ren trying to reach out to him. Ren was a good friend but he often stayed quiet.

Jaune: What? Oh. Uh, I'm fine. Why are you asking?

Ren: Because you've been even quieter than me these last couple of weeks. That isn't like you.

Jaune thought back to Pyrrha's death and how she had admitted that she loved him just before she died. 

Jaune: It's... It's nothing. I'm alright.

Ren didn't seem like he believed him. 

Ren: Jaune-

Ren was cut off by a loud rumbling from nearby. Jaune looked off in the direction of where the rumbling was coming from. 

Jaune: It's here.

Ruby and Qrow started to run back out of the tree in front of Jaune and Ren.

Qrow: Spread out!

The ground shook again as a giant boulder made its way through the trees knocking them all down in front of them and revealing what looked to be a large human-like body made out of boulders. In the center was what looked to be a grimm mask. 

Jaune: Move!

Jaune ran to the right with Ruby and Qrow while Ren and Nora ran to the left. Jaune was still in shock at the size of the threat.

Jaune: That's a geist? I thought they were supposed to be our size.

Qrow: They are but they possess objects. Whenever they do though their face is still exposed. 

Jaune looked back at the mask he saw in the center of the boulders. 

Jaune: That mask. That must be it.

Ruby: We'll have to get in close if we want to hit it. 

Jaune: We need to knock those boulders out of the way. 

The geist grimm then began to charge at Jaune, Qrow, and Ruby.

Jaune: And hopefully not the other way around!

Ruby: Split up!

Jaune and Qrow dashed to the right while Ruby attempted to use her petal burst semblance to dash to the left. As they both attempted to dodge out of the way geist grimm slammed one of its boulders at them making a shockwave that knocked both groups on their backs. The geist grimm then turned to face Jaune again as it was about to attack him and Qrow. But before it could Nora shot it in the back with Magnhild. The geist grimm was forced to catch itself to keep it from falling with its right boulder arm. Ren then jumped from its left and attempted to strike the mask at the center of the cluster of boulders but the geist grimm just barely moved in time only allowing Ren to make a cut into it but not enough to destroy it before landing at the ground near it. The geist grimm then turned to Ren as it began to swing its left arm at him.
