Getting Ready

You assumed landing on Pandora would be different, at the very least you thought there would be more wilderness around. However, after landing in Bridge city it was clear things were going to be very different from what you expected. You could hear all sorts of machines at work, none in sync with the others as they were all working on different parts of the same project or a different one close by. Everything looked like it was constantly moving, they were always in motion. "Hey, Rookie." One of the Avatars from the ship approached you with some bags and gear, he was tall and bald it was all you knew about him. That and he was in the room you woke up in. "Yes, sir?" He slammed all the stuff he had onto the ground in front of you and stood up straight. "Go take these in, your training will start in twenty minutes." He gave you a small smile and just left you there, not knowing where anything went. You sighed and picked everything up ready to get it done and over with.

Finding where the bags went was easy what wasn't though was the training. It was brutal and long, not to mention there was a lot of repetition. Your mind got bored quickly which didn't settle with whoever was training you. It just pissed them off, they were under a lot of pressure. They apparently needed to train you in the basics of everything in at least a month. That wasn't happening however not with you being a very spacy person.

So instead of trying to teach you they just handed you off to the Colonel. You had almost no alone time and instead of teaching you he threw you into scenarios and pointed out everything you did wrong. Take the wrong step, dead. Don't clean your gun properly, dead. Can't load your gun fast enough, dead. To slow of a reaction, dead. It was trial and error every day for a week before he got word about Jake Sully. There was a train of some sort that got exploded, you didn't really know any more details about it. After that day he gave you half a day off. In the morning he pounded into you and in the afternoon he told you to train on your own. He also told you that because he was training you he was bringing you along on the mission.

"I'm still failing every scenario you put me in! Why would you bring me out there?!" He just stayed stern and relaxed, this was the usual demeanor he had. "Some people do better when thrown into the fire." You were baffled and sure he just wanted you dead at this point. "Again I have failed every scenario you have given me over and over. I'm going to die!" He gave me a chuckle before turning to walk away, "then I suggest you do something about that Pampered Princess." This was the nickname he'd given you which resulted in the others calling you PP, you hated it.

Frustrated as hell and determined to survive you headed for the Sec-Ops Armor Bay. Normally you would have avoided the loud and busy Ops Center but you needed gear. Picking up your high-powered Recom Z-33R Pistol and Recom knife was easy. They were the only two weapons you knew how to use effectively, and where you were heading you needed them. Walking through The Ops Center was noisy and distracting, everything was doing its own work and nothing was still or at peace. The small lifeless Swarm Assembler's noises and creepy movements were the worst for you. They reminded you of spiders and you couldn't tell if it was intentional or not. Aside from the engaged environment, all thoughts of the machines of Bridge City left your mind as soon as you got close to the South Land Gate. You weren't exactly allowed to leave Bridge City without General Ardmore's permission but you knew you wouldn't be too far out and technically the edge of the kill zone was still Bridge City.

It was a calming place and the only place you could be alone without anything finding you. Without most of the machines, you could smell the natural scent of Pandora. It was wonderful whenever a strong gust of wind came up and filled your senses. It cleared your mind and lets you relax, making you less stressed and more focused. The view was another thing you loved about it, it was colorful and captivating. Your eyes were glued to the scenery every time and wouldn't look away. The animals would rarely come around but when they did it was brief. You had only seen an Ikran or two fly close and only once had you seen some Direhorses.

You let the scene take all your senses away and bring you out there till you sat down. With your head clear and breathing steady you started thinking again. You were so going to die tomorrow. It was a simple mission but you didn't feel ready, not with how your training had been shaping up. The only weapons you knew how to use were the two you had on you. Recons needed to know how to use multiple weapons and you could only use two. "I'm going to die aren't I?" You gave a small chuckle as you talked to no one but yourself. "I'm done for, I don't even know how to cover someone! Someone could die because of me." Sighing you could feel your voice falter. "Ugh, why am I here? What was the purpose of making me an Avatar if I was just going to get in the way?" Your throat felt stuck and your eyes were hot, you didn't like the idea of failing. Much less failing and being the cause of someone's death. Feeling yourself getting worked up you took a deep breath in. Closing your eyes and calming down you started visualizing doing everything right, with no missteps, no altercations, and no mistakes. You smiled thinking maybe you'd even get praised...

She appeared in your mind again, that proud little Daddy's girl. Her proud smile. She seemed so far away and naive. Maybe because she was or maybe because you were. You needed to know more, you kept trying every day. Some days you would remember a few more things and others you were stuck. All you knew was that there was some great injustice she felt when she got older, instead of being proud of her dad she detested him. The reasoning was still unknown but you could feel her anger seething into you when you thought of him.

Opening your eyes and breathing out you let it go and brought yourself back to the mission. That was what you wanted to think about except there was this seed-like thing in front of you. It was floating in front of you like a jellyfish, looking like it wanted to rest on something. You reached your hand out offering it a spot only for it to refuse and leave in the breeze. You watched it wistfully leave mesmerized by its movements you watched it until it was gone. It reminded you of her in a sense, it was right in front of you and then it was gone as fast as it had appeared. Sighing you then picked yourself back up and started to prep for tomorrow.
