Waiting In The Silence

I finally could walk on my own, and Elder Ku'uu sent me out of the Marui. I protested as he shoved me out, but when he closed the entryway, I gave up. He had already treated my wounds this morning, which meant it was her turn. My shoulders slumped as I sighed just outside the Marui. I wasn't going to get back in there any time soon. I moved along, setting my body on an unplanned walk. I couldn't see any of my family around, which was odd as they always seemed to be close. Instead of looking into it, I for once went my own way and didn't try to find them. I started walking mindlessly along the village but everywhere I looked I was reminded of my time with (Y/N). It would be the smallest moments that came to mind, right outside the communal meal area which was empty now brought the memory of (Y/N) and my mother.

"Neteyam, (Y/N)." Hearing my mother call for us we stopped dead in our tracks, (Y/N) lightly bumped into the Na'vi right behind her. "Sorry." She moved out of his way and he kept walking. "No problem." My mother replaced the space where he had been and moved us to the side. "Neteyam, tomorrow night your father and I need you to watch your siblings." I nodded; this was nothing new to me. "Yes, mother." However, this was new to (Y/N). "What for?" My mother looked excited. "Ma Jake and I are going to have our date night." (Y/N) looked pleased at the answer. "Would you mind if I helped Neteyam then?" My mother looked delighted at (Y/N)'s request. "Of course, it would certainly be helpful to Neteyam." My mother touched my shoulder lightly. "Thank you (Y/N)." She touched (Y/n)'s shoulder as well before she left to go and collect dinner.

My parent's date night had been amazing, instead of it feeling like usual whereas I felt like the only responsible adult and parent. I actually felt like a night with my siblings and the girl I had only now come to notice. It started off with small things like her asking about our customs and being amazed at our way of life. Then it grew into her starting to be a part of my life, adapting quickly with us. My father had even complimented her. I remember his words about her as we caught a glimpse of her catching some fish with Rotxo and Tsireya. "She really is doing well isn't she?" My eyes stayed on her as eclipse was starting and giving her body a glow. Her arms were raised up with a spear in hand, and she was ready. "Yeah," Her spear came crashing down into the water and she squealed with excitement. Tsireya and Rotxo celebrated the small accomplishment with her. "Impressive, it took me years to fully adapt." Hearing him give her his approval really got me to notice her, to start to admire her.

The way she had bonded so well with Tuk was amazing, her and Kiri were also friends as they had spent many afternoons together, and Lo'ak. Well, they had something, I couldn't tell if it was positive or not but they at least tolerated each other. Date night was no exception to these observations, I left with Kiri to go and grab dinner for everyone and when we arrived back we found (Y/N), Tuk, and Lo'ak in discourse. Supposedly (Y/N) had come to Tuk's rescue from Lo'ak and his shenanigans. Though (Y/N) had gotten injured in this endeavor, she had a long scratch on her back. It was nothing too serious but it still needed to be treated, I had been close to her many times before, I was a hands-on kind of teacher during our knife lessons but that night I didn't know what came over me.

I was teasing her, asking her to warm my hands and practically flirting with her. Although I felt as though most of my attempts had gone unnoticed. After dinner was when I really felt like I wanted her close. We went out to stare at the stars and tell stories; Tuk was on one side as I took the edge. Originally (Y/N) was trying to lay by Tuk but she wanted Kiri. Lo'ak took the spot next to Kiri and began telling our parent's victory over the sky people story. I was thankful for the pile at first, the wind was picking up and it was cold but I was warm with my family by my side so I discarded my poncho. I kept listening to Lo'ak until prying eyes, I could feel as though someone was intensely staring. I moved my head to look up and behind me only to see (Y/N) freezing her ass off. She gave me the most forced smile I'd ever seen in my entire life. I felt bad I'd felt her there and gave a pitiful smile back while I moved my arm to reach out for her.
