A New Perspective

I could hear a murmur of voices in the dark, moving my eyes around and slowly opening them to the fiery-lit Marui. It was blurry but the harsh light indicated it was Eclipse time, the pain in my upper body was burning. My hand moved to my shoulder, remembering what happened to me. "Neteyam?" My vision started to clear when I heard my sister's voice. "Neteyam!" Tuk bounced by my side in circles. "You're up! Neteyam, you're up!" Moving my arms behind me to prop myself up my head felt light, and yet the heavy pain of throbbing made it hard to keep my eyes open. "Mom! Mom, Neteyam's up!" My mother came into the room immediately, her eyes puffy and tearing up. "Oh, Neteyam," She had her hand over her mouth, covering up her smile as she ran to me. "Mother." I weakly stretched my arm out when she came close to hug me. "Neteyam!"

I could smell my mother's scent and I felt safe, I leaned into her embrace and held her tight. "My son, oh thank you, great mother." She was cradling my head and rocking us both in a soothing motion. "Thank you," Tuk was teary-eyed and was smiling at me. My mother parted from me, putting my face in her hands before landing a kiss on my forehead. She looked at me, tears streaming down her face as she just looked at me. "My beautiful boy." I smiled at her, happy to be in her focus and having her hand along my face. Though it made me miss the feeling of another touch, (Y/N), where was she? My smile faded with my mother as she moved in for another hug. I accepted the motion but looked over at Tuk. "Where is (Y/N)?" Tuk's face gave away something wasn't right.

My mother fell out of our embrace slowly, their silence about (Y/N) was speaking volumes and my mind was quick to catch something wasn't right. "Mom? Where's (Y/N)?" Sensing a panic rising my mother then answered. "She's okay," After that, my mother stopped talking. Like she had nothing else to say. "Can I go see her?" She cupped my face again and smiled. "Yeah, she's right here." She motioned towards Tuk, but Tuk moved closer to me and I saw her. She was peacefully lying next to me in a cot. "It's only been a few days so she hasn't woken up yet." How long? "Wait days? How long was I out?"

I stood further up in my makeshift bed and Tuk started to sit where my feet had just been. I winced when I tried using just my upper body to lift myself. "Neteyam, take it slow." My mother moved her hands to keep me from using too much of my strength to sit up. "You just woke up and you've been shot twice. You need to rest." She moved me to lean against the woven wall. "Take it easy, Tuk go tell your father Neteyam's up." Tuk scurried out of the room. "Mother, how many days have I been out?" She moved to sit next to me on the floor. "You've been resting for eight days." I was taken aback, I was thinking I'd been out for three days with how much my wounds hurt. "Eight days?" My mother took my hand to try and say something but someone beat her to it.

"I see you are up." We both looked over to the entrance of what I realized was the healers' tent. "It was about time." Elder Ku'uu was walking in with a basket by his side. "Although with you being up this is going to hurt a lot more." Confused, I tilted my head to the side. "What is?" Elder Ku'uu lifted his basket higher to show it was medicinal herbs and ointments. "Oh," I was smiling at the thought of (Y/N) and ointments. She hated them, but she wasn't up to protest. "I'll show you what I'll be doing first on her." The Elder kneeled down next to her, setting the basket next to him, and started. There were many ointments and herbs, and a change of dried seaweed bandages as well. The entire time (Y/N) didn't move, she gave no reaction either, she just layed there. Her brows didn't furrow, she didn't try and make a getaway she just stayed there.

"Alright, it's your turn Neteyam." What was wrong with her? Why wasn't she up? "Is she going to be okay?" I scanned her body, her arm and leg had been bandaged, and she'd been shot twice too. "She lost a lot of blood, she is stable though." She looked frail. "When will she wake up?" Elder Ku'uu turned to face me and moved his basket closer, our cots were placed close to each other. "We don't know, we weren't even sure when you'd wake up." He started with an herb and on my shoulder. It wasn't that painful but then again it was the first step in many. "Is she going to wake up?" His lips pursed together and his face moved oddly. "Neteyam." My mother took my hand as the burning ointment was smoothed over my skin.
