You were triple checking your gear, you had to make sure you had everything. You couldn't afford to mess this up and the Colonel wasn't here to tell you what you were doing wrong due to him taking care of his own equipment and making sure everything else was ready to go. "Keep checking your gear and you'll never even make it to the airship." Walker was one of the other two girls in the group and frankly, she wasn't as nice as you had hoped. None of them were, you knew they were all thinking the same thing about you. You were just some girl who got lucky with connections and daddy's money, and you were useless to them. You were fragile and weak-minded to them, you wanted to prove them wrong so badly.
Last night you went through everything the Colonel had taught you to this point and had hopefully done so right, you were going to prove to them you had potential something to make them see how capable you were, anything would do. But you wanted to do it and not with anyone's help either, you needed this mission now. You weren't stressed anymore, now you were determined to make this mission yours. With this, you walked out to the Kestrel aircraft. You all pilled into about three before finally setting off.
Flying through the Hallelujah Mountains was a sight to behold, you had seen a picture of them but nothing compared to flying through them. They were captivating you, the waterfalls that dissipated in the air looked as if they were clouds instead. They could have taken you away to a fairy tale. The large vines connecting the mountains looked like arms that refused to let go of each other. Like it was all some deeply connected community breathing in unison. The exact opposite of you with the Recom team, you felt so out of place and yet you wanted to belong. You needed to prove you could be someone they could rely on.
Landing was easy, just sliding down a rope attached to the Kestrel aircraft about a couple of feet. Nothing too hard and nothing to screw up, but as soon as your feet reached the ground your hands reached towards your gun. Instead of having your pistol out, you were told to have your Recom M69-AR, it was supposedly easier to use. And in a sense it was, you asset your surrounding area as well as everyone's flanks, keeping watch even on each other until the Kestrel was gone.
The sounds of Pandora tickled your ears as the sounds became clear. The melodies of the animals singing all coincided with each other making it all the more real that you were now out in the wild with no protective walls. Just your weapons and each other, you were determined before but now you were wary. The sounds of the wildlife started to get louder and you couldn't help but look to the Colonel, for what you didn't know. Maybe just for some comfort that he would be watching you and making sure you were going to be just fine. However, He wasn't looking anywhere in your direction, he was just taking in Pandora's wonders and looking stern doing so.
All of you were in a straight line walking through the wilderness and with each step you didn't know what to think. Your heart was beating fast and your shoulders had been tense for so long that you were starting to feel weak already. The sounds were what scarred you the most, there was always some noise and you couldn't tell where most of them came from. You were so stuck in your own panic that it was affecting your mind. Everything sounded so close, the person behind you, Mansk and you thought for sure he was thinking you lost it. The only thing that made you feel safe was that you were somewhat in the front half. Wainfleet was in the front with the Colonel second. Zdinarsk was behind him and you were right behind her, although everyone called her Z-dog. They were a good team and you liked being right next to them, it gave you a small sense of security. But with still no idea where you were headed and no one talking your senses were still messing with you. And when a sound that was almost like giggling was heard you saw both the Colonel and Zdinarsk point their guns at an animal.
You watched as a couple of animals came and looked at you, probably making the decision if they wanted to attack or not. You had frozen at this point, the tenseness in your shoulders made it so you almost couldn't move. Of course, until the animals left you and it was just the Recom group alone again. Colonel lowered his gun and signaled for you all to keep going, just as silent and painfully as before.
