I walk upstairs, and go to their mom's room and knock on the door "Miss Amy it's Adenna" I say and I hear shuffling, the door slowly opens and she looks disheveled. "Oh I'm sorry Adenna I didn't know you were coming over," she says with a small smile. "It's okay Amy. Um, so I was talking with Ryder, and um he hasn't slept in a while" I say and she shakes her head
"Oh that boy always staying up late" she chuckles "Um...yeah. But I was wondering if you don't mind if I could watch the boys from now on" I say and she shakes her head "Oh no I couldn't ask you to do that" she says "No no I want to I don't know if you know but they haven't been to school yet and um I think Parker is having nightmares. I want to help. Please let me help" I say and she looks sad "I want to do this. Please let me. You don't even have to pay me. I want to do it for them and you. Please" I say and she looks away. "I....I....I am sad, depressed, and can't do anything right now. I am failing them, please. Take care of them. Please" she sniffles "I will take care of them I promise," I say holding her hands.
"I will take care of them like they're my own," I say and she nods tears streaming down. "Thank you Adenna" she whispers and closes her door. I walk back downstairs and see Parker and Ryder on the couch trying to stay awake. "Ryder" I call him and he turns to me "Parker," I say and he looks at me eyes half open. "Ryder go lay down and get some sleep, and Parker I'll stay with you I want you to try and get some sleep with me," I say, and Ryder looks confused "I am going to be taking care of you guys from now on" Ryder you need to get some sleep, and Parker I will be right next to you so don't worry about being alone," I say and sit down next to them "Thank you Adenna" Ryder smiles and slowly gets up and goes upstairs.
"Okay you come here" I pat my thigh and he slowly lays down on me not even a few minutes in he knocks out. I grab my phone and text DJ.
Me- DJ I need a favor
Dj- What's up
Me- I want to help you find who did this to Dante. And I need sleeping medication
DJ- There's not much you will be able to do but you can help. And sleeping medication, you can't take that
Me- It's not for me. It's for Parker he's having nightmares and hasn't slept along with Amy
Dj- Okay I'll see what I can do. And as for Dante just see if you can find anything in his room.
Me- Thank you, DJ
I turn off my phone and look down at Parker who is turning and scrunching his face "It's okay Parker, you're safe, I'm here" I whisper rubbing his arm "D..Dante" he whispers and I feel sad "It's okay Parker just rest" I whisper. And he slowly relaxes and I gently hold him. "I know you're hurting but I will find who did this" I whisper. After a couple of minutes, I slowly slide out and go into the kitchen. I put some dishes in the dishwasher and starts some water so I could also hand wash, I tie up the trash bag and start a load of the boy's clothes. I sit back down to make sure I don't get nauseous again. I eat some crackers and whisper to Parker whenever he has a nightmare.
I also get up and go check on Ryder who is sleeping soundly, I walk back downstairs and finish the dishes. I throw the load in the dryer and clear out the dishwasher. Then take out the trash, "Hey Denna" I turn around and see DJ waving "Oh hey DJ" I wave "Here's the medicine" he says handing me a bag. "How are they doing," he asks "Parker has been having nightmares and so has Amy the house is a wreck and Ryder has been taking care of both of them and hasn't slept fully since he can't remember," I say and DJ looks sad. "I wish I could do more to help," he says looking down "You are. You're going to find out who did this to him. And once you find out I want you to kill them slowly so they could feel all our pain" I say with anger in my soul.
"I will kill them slowly and with so much pain. I will make them bleed and scream for mercy" he says and I nod "Good. I will find anything I can here and report back to you" I say and he nods "We'll find them" he says and I nod. I finish talking with DJ and go back inside and see Parker whimpering "Hey Parker, Parker wake up it's okay. It's okay honey it's just a dream wake up" I shake him and his eyes shoot open and he gasps. "A...Adenna," he says grabbing me confused, tears rolling down his face "Yes it's me it's okay I'm here," I say and he grabs a hold of me and hugs me.
"Adenna I...I'm so scared" he whispers, "What. What are you scared of" I ask "W...what if the person who killed him comes for us" he whispers crying into my shoulder. "What? No, look at me Parker" I move back and have him look at me "I am going be here for you every day and night as long as you need me. I will never let anyone hurt you. I will stay by that door all night if that's what it'll take for you to feel safe. I will not let anyone hurt you. I wish I was there with him but I wasn't and I'll be damned if I ever let someone hurt you and them not pay the consequences of me. Do you understand" I say and he looks at me shocked his tears have stopped and he slowly nods.
"Thank you Adenna. I feel much better" he nods and I smile "Good. Now before you go back to sleep I want you to eat something" I say and he nods getting up and going to the kitchen.
