Hey!!!All my lovely readers. An important question at the end, if you know the answer please tell me!
Beep... Beep.. beep
I was woken up from my dreamless slumber by the constant sound of the ECG machine, opening my eyes they burned from all the light making me close then for a second. When I opened them again, I looked around trying to understand my surroundings everything was white, the walls, ceiling and even the window frames. I tried to sit up but a sharp pain in my wrist stopped me, looking at it I saw the bandage wrapped there.
Everything was kind of blurry, yet I remember it all. My lashing out, the glass piece in my wrist and most of all the pain that I felt. Everybody betrayed me. Every fucking person. A tear slipped from my eyes as I remembered Naana's slap, it wasn't something I could have expected in my worst nightmares and yet it happened.
It hurt so much, everything did, why did I have to be the one to face all of this? Couldn't I just simply have a normal life?
Suddenly, I felt the door open and in came a nurse, she looked old maybe in her late forties but she had a kind smile. When she saw me awake she looked surprised but that look passed quickly and she smiled at me, the wrinkles on the edges becoming prominent.
"Hey Kid! How are you feeling?" She asked and I just shugged. There wasn't much to feel except for the the pain, whether it be emotional or physical but what could I say about that.
"Well, you slept quite long. Our Head was very worried, it's been 13 hours." She said and my eyes widened, I was alseep that long? She must have noticed my look as she giggled, turning to check all the machines.
"Don't worry I will go and tell him. He's been scaring all the others doctors and nurses with his glare." She said and laughed as if it was the joke of the century.
"Don't-t te-ll him-m." I said and coughed harshly, realising how patched my throat felt.
"Here." The Lady said as she hurriedly sat me up and gave me a glass of water.
"Kid they are really worried, all your family was here the whole night. They only left after our Head threatened them." She said and I rose a bow. Who was so stupid to threaten those elephants?
"Who's your Head?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Kartika Singh."
"Oh." That's why.
I smiled thinking about how Chief would have shooed all of them away.
"Let me get him." She said as she turned to leave but I held her hand, stopping her.
"Don't. I want to rest for a little more." I said making her frown but she nodded nevertheless.
As she left the room, I was alone with my thoughts and I closed my eyes sighing softly.
They don't want you!
Illegitimate child!
"Open your hand." My English teacher, Mrs. Anuja, snapped and I fliched, tears streaming down my face feeling humiliated as I felt the stares of all my classmates.
"Now!" She barked and I fliched again but I didn't have any choice so I raised my hand and opened my clinched fist.
Slap.
The stick made it's sound when it hit my palm, making a red print appear.
Slap.
Slap.
