Getting myself to open the door was far more difficult than I thought it would be, after everything that went down I just wanted to curl up and die. Yet I had to get out, it was wrong of me to act so recklessly and I had to apologise for that. Gulping down the urge to jump from the window, I slowly opened the door and stepped in the hallway, it was empty. Thank God.
It was already evening so the house was quite, everybody was out as I thought. Yet just as I made my way downstairs I saw Mumma sitting on the living room sofa, reading through some documents on her laptop with her glasses on. My steps immediately flattered, having remembered all the awful things I said to her but before I could run back to my room and bury myself in my blankets again, she sensed my presence and looked up.
I was clutching the railing for dear life as her gaze locked with mine but I didn't expect to see the change that I saw, her eyes softened almost immediately and a smile curved on her lips.
"Baby, come sit with Mumma." She said as if I hadn't spit those venomous words at her just a day prior and then proceeded to run away.
I swallowed and slowly went downstairs, standing infront of her as she held my hand and pulled me to sit down with her.
"Did you sleep well?" She asked as her eyes studied my face, somehow the intensity behind them had me shrinking maybe it was the glasses but I wasn't sure.
I nodded meekly, when Mumma took my hand and examined the wound there, someone had changed my bandages before I woke up. I was looking at them as well when a drop fell on my plam, I looked at Mumma and saw her hurriedly wipe away any other tear that managed to escape her eyes.
"Mumma?"
And with just that the tears broke down again, suddenly she was crying full force while hugging me for dear life.
"Baby I know, Mumma hasn't been their for you but believe me, Mumma never wanted you to leave. I was helpless and I was still asleep in the hospital when your Dad had already sent you away. Mumma is so sorry, so so sorry punish Mumma which ever way you want but please never leave me again. Mumma will die."
"Mumma." I gasped looking at her.
You were so helpless that you couldn't visit one day?
"You don't know Baby how much I have cried to hear to you call me that and now if you will leave I won't be able to live." She cried and I felt myself tear up too.
"Promise me you won't do something like that ever again." She said and I smiled at her reassuringly.
"I won't. Never."
Then Mumma hugged me again and we stayed like that for quite sometime, I wanted to say more but I didn't know if it was the right time or not, so I stayed quite and brisked in the feeling of the embrace I had always cried for. It was early to forgive anyone but it was time to move on, I thought to myself. We pulled away only when my stomach grumbled.
"I will get you something to eat."
Mumma said but the moment she got up she hissed and sat back down, I widened my eyes at her pained expression.
"Mumma are you hurt? Should I call someone? A doctor?" I asked and she just looked at me for a second then smiled lovingly.
"No Baby, Mumma's fine." She said and got up again and went to the kitchen with me following behind her.
There Mumma took a already prepared bowl of lunch out and served it to me after heating it. I quickly dug in, only realising how hungry I was, after taking the first bite.
Once done I looked at Mumma who laughed lightly while looking at my face, she quickly grabbed a tissue and held my chin softly while she wiped my mouth and cheeks.
