When You Weren't Looking - Roman Reigns

Sitting in hospital waiting rooms had become normal for me, I would sit here and flick through magazines and read the posters that adorned the multiple notice boards on the walls while I waited for y/n.

She had been through so much in such a short space of time and I had been by her side every step of the way, when she got her diagnosis, for each decision she had to make, for all her appointments, her surgery and now her treatment.

Today was her fourth lot of radiotherapy and she had five more to go. With each dose she became more tired, her appetite shrunk and I was now having to be very careful when I hugged her becuase her skin had become quite sore.

The hardest part so far had been watching her look at her reflection in the mirror after surgery for the first time and seeing her break down. I had comforted her as best I could but nothing I did or said could make up for what she had lost. While she said she no longer felt like a woman, to me she was still the most beautiful woman on earth to me.

While she had been focused on herself and what she needed to do and the choices she needed to make I had been falling more and more in love with her, I guess you could say I fell in love with her while she wasn't looking.

The door of the waiting room opens and a very tired looking y/n walks in, I quickly go to her and wrap an arm around her waist to support her and she leans into me.

"Hey big man, time to take me home" she says smiling up at me weakly

"How are you feeling sweetheart?" I ask as I guide her slowly out of the hospital

"Tired, sore, nauseous, the usual" she sighs "I just want to go home and go to bed"

"Do you think you go eat something?" I ask as I help her into the car

"Maybe later" she says and then takes in my face "please don't worry, my appetite will be back to normal once the treatment is done"

"I'm so proud of you, you've take all this like a real champ" I say getting into the drivers seat

"Yeah which part, the part where I lost both my breasts or when the decided to take away my ability to have kids as a precaution" she sighs

"Hey don't be like that, you're here, you're alive that's what matters" I say giving her thigh a gentle squeeze "and I still have you in my life"

"Yeah but who is going to want me Ro?" She says as tears fill her eyes "who is going to want me like this? I'm sorry I should be thanking you for everything you've done for me not bringing you down"

Turing off the main road I pull the car over into a small car park, I take a deep breath, now is as good a time as any to tell her and if it helps her to feel better about herself then my work is done.

"Listen to me, I know right now you don't feel all that great and your confidence is low but you need to know that there is some one who thinks you are the most beautiful woman in the world" I say "that loves you beyond measure and would be proud to have you as his woman"

"Really? And who is that?" She says looking in my eyes "because I don't see anybody queueing up to win my heart"

"Some one who has been by your side this whole time" I say taking her hands in mine

"Y.....you? You love me? How? When?" She asks wide eyed

"When you weren't looking" I smile "while you've been focused on you I've been falling more and more in love with you. So yes I love you and yes I want you"

"Ro I........I love you too but you know I can't give you what you want" she says "you want a family, I can't.........."

"Hey, there's more than one way to make it happen" I say "all I want right now is you, we can figure the rest out in time"

"You have to promise me that if at anytime you change your mind about me, about us that you will tell me" she says "promise me"

"It'll never happen but I promise" I say, I lean in slowly and press my lips delicately against hers for the very first time, she returns the kiss and for a moment we are just lost in each other and in the moment

"Fancy taking a nap with me when we get home?" She asks breaking the kiss

"If you're sure it won't hurt you" I say "I know you're really sore"

"I'll be fine" she says "and maybe later I can have another go at looking at myself, you don't have to of course"

"Every step of the way remember" I say kissing the back of her hand "and I told you, you're the most beautiful woman in the world to me, what's happened hasn't changed that"

"Take me home big man" she smiles "I'm ready for that nap"
