"I wasn't sure what you wanted so I got one of everything."
As promised, Eddie had come by with breakfast the next morning. He was getting used to using the front door now that your mother partially accepted the fact you two spent time together. Mainly, he was glad he didn't have to pull himself up into your window every time.
Though, there is something romantic about that.
After his epiphany of how madly in love he is last night, the sight of you answering the door in your pajamas made Eddie weak in the knees. He nearly dropped the hot coffee he was holding upon seeing your eyes still droopy with sleep squinting above a smile for him.
You thought he was acting odd as you two sat at the round kitchen table eating the pastries he had bought. The brunette was barely looking you in the eye, his gaze darting everywhere but. You watched him with suspicion as you bit into a croissant.
"You feeling okay?" you wondered. Your brows were furrowed, staring at the boy as he finally looked up at you.
"Yup," he said, almost too quickly. His hand came to rest over his chin and mouth, propped by the elbow that sat on the tabletop. "A-okay. Better than okay! Are you- you feeling okay?"
Deflecting it back to me, you thought and squinted at him.
Beneath the table, Eddie's knee was bouncing up and down with nerves. His pupils were enlarged inside widened brown eyes. He watched you nod in affirmation to his question before glancing back out the window beside you.
As if things between you two had not been weird enough already, his realization had made it worse. You had been unsure how to act toward him since the day after Christmas; holding back on physical affection and flirtatious conversation. Now that Eddie's heart pounded heavily with love for you, he too was taking on this awkwardness.
Even though it had only been a week, he missed kissing you. He longed to feel your mouth on his, especially with his recognized feelings. But he wasn't sure how you felt about him. A girl like that couldn't possibly be in love with you, his mind told him. He shied away from initiating touch out of fear that you would reject it.
You two had to discuss a lot, including this situation you found yourselves in. He was terribly afraid of that conversation; he wasn't sure he would be able to handle it if things couldn't go back to normal. Even worse, if he confessed his feelings and you shut him down, he would lose you and all the strength he'd built up.
"Any plans for today?" you interjected his anxious thoughts. You could tell something was up and you really wanted to know what.
"Yeah, uh," Eddie was clearly unprepared to answer. "The shop is backed up with weeks worth of cars so I told the guys I'd help out."
There were in fact a ton of jobs to be done at Thacher Tire since they had fallen behind on work during the holiday, but Eddie wasn't going in that day. He just couldn't tell you where he was actually going.
