I sat in Joe's with Meredith, George and Izzie. Izzie had been to the bar to get another drink.
"I don't know. When I left, Cristina said she was ok," George said.
"Nobody goes what she went through and is totally over it by now," Izzie said.
"Cristina can," George said.
"She's fine," Meredith said.
"Too fine. She's cold," Izzie said.
"No, she's hardcore. She's got ice in her veins. She does what she has to do to get through it," George said.
"She lost a baby. She lost a fallopian tube and she's acting like she doesn't even care. She's all "Hello, I'm totally fine person." Ok, she's my friend too but she's acting like she has no emotions or warmth like she's missing a soul," Izzie said.
"She's processing. In a person like Yang, that takes time," I said.
"God, she's gonna make a great surgeon," George said.
"George!" Izzie said.
"It's true. You show no weakness, you make it to the top," George said.
"Some people just keep their feelings to themselves," Meredith said.
"I'm gonna grab another. Anyone want anything?" I asked. The three of them shook their head. I walked to the bar.
"Cola?" Joe asked.
"Sure," I said.
"When's your roommate leaving?" Derek asked.
"She's not and quit calling Addison my roommate. You're married to her," I said.
"She slept with your brother why aren't you pissed off?" Derek asked.
"She's my best friend Der. She makes decisions that I don't like but I support her as she does me. God knows she hated me joining the army," I said.
Timeskip
Izzie, George, Alex, Meredith and I were following Dr Bailey around doing rounds.
"I want everyone focused today. With Cristina out, we're short an intern and I have a feeling it's gonna be one of those days. And Karev, see the chief by the end of the day," Dr Bailey said.
"What for?" Alex asked.
"Do I look psychic to you? He is the chief. He asked. You go," Dr Bailey said. We walked into a patient's room to find nurses and other staff gathered around while our patients told them stories.
"So we're in the middle of the Belizian jungle and this jaguarondi jumps out and bites one of the guides. They all look at me. They're yelling, "You're a doctor, help him!" This is one time a PhD does no good," The woman said.
"I'm sorry, did I miss the bell for social hour?" Dr Bailey asked. Everyone began leaving.
"Tales of missionary life," The woman said.
"You're a missionary?" Izzie asked.
"No, my parents. We travelled a lot. They still do," The woman said.
"Oh wow. This stuff looks great," Izzie said looking at the artefacts on the table. Dr Bailey gave her an annoyed look. "Um, this is Dr Burke's patient, Kalpana Vera..."
"Kull-punnah." Named by villagers in Nepal," Kalpana corrected Izzie's pronunciation.
"Uh, she presents with multiple syncopal episodes and ventricular arrhythmias," Izzie said.
"So you've been passing out?" Dr Bailey asked.
"Yeah and having palpitations," Kalpana said.
"Past medical history of rheumatic heart disease with mitral valve stenosis," Izzie said.
