Addison and I were in the elevator.
"Are you sure you should be working today? You haven't slept all night," Addison said.
"I'm good," I said as the elevator stopped. I kissed Addison. "I'll see you later. I love you,"
"I love you too," Addison said. I got out of the elevator and walked over to the nurses' station where Cristina, Alex, Izzie, George, Meredith and Dr Bailey were standing.
"Okay, we gotta move fast, people, so focus. Uh, O'Malley, the pit. Karev, you're with me. We've got a surgery. Stevens, the clinic budget is due. Yang, Grey, wait for the chief at the trauma bay," Bailey said.
"What? Why?" Cristina asked.
"Both of us?" Meredith asked as I stabbed a hole in a can of Red Bull and quickly shotgunned it.
"Yes, both of you. I don't know what. I don't know why. Just go," Bailey said. Everyone rushed off except Bailey. "What's up with you?" Bailey asked.
"The boys spent the night having nightmares. But I'm good," I said.
"Yeah, you can come with me and Karev. I wanna keep my eye on you," Bailey said. We walked to a patient's room. It was a pediatric room.
"Jackson Prescott! You shot up again?" Bailey asked.
"No, I didn't," Jackson said.
"Well, then why do you look so big?" Dr Bailey asked.
"'Cause you're short," Jackson said hoping up onto the bed.
"I've always been short. You grew," Dr Bailey said.
"Dr Bailey, while I check out Jackson, why don't you take Melinda through today's procedure?" Dr Kenley, head of paediatrics said.
"Yeah, no problem. Come on," Dr Bailey said leading Jackson's Mom, Melinda, Alex and me outside.
"Did you see? He looks more yellow," Melinda said.
"Okay, Dr Kenley's gonna check his liver function test," Bailey turned to look at Alex and me. "Look before we start, let me explain something. Jackson has had 12 bowel resections. Dr Kenley calls me anytime Jackson's here. Now Melinda is a single mom. She works like a maniac to make sure that that beautiful boy has health coverage," Bailey said.
"Miranda..." Melinda tried to interrupt Bailey.
"Don't even start. This is a special family. We do whatever we can to help," Dr Bailey said.
"It's really not necessary," Melinda said.
"I ... it is necessary," Dr Bailey said.
"We'll take good care of your kid," Alex said.
"He's in good hands," I said.
"Thank you," Melinda said. Alex and I walked back into Jackson's room and looked at his chart.
"Are you gonna let me have a lollipop this time?" Jackson asked Dr Kenley. "My stomach's not so bad right now,"
"It's not? So how come I'm about to cut a piece out of it again?" Dr Kenley asked.
"Give me one of the lollipops, and if I keep it down, we don't have to do the operation," Jackson said.
"I'm not sure that's gonna ... I'm not ... I'm ..." Dr Kenley seemed to be leaning slightly.
"Dr Kenley?" I asked. Dr Kenley hit the floor. Alex and I rushed over to Dr Kenley.
"Jackson hit the blue button. Right behind you ... hit the blue button," Alex said. I started doing compressions.
