We were in the skills lab. Chief Webber was showing us a new robot.

"Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce ... stan. A state-of-the-art, computerized patient simulator. Stan can educate you in airway management, trauma assessment and care. He breathes, he pulsates, he seizes, he hemorrhages, he secretes and he speaks," Dr Webber said. "Hello, stan,"

"Hello, doctor. I'm not feeling well," Stan said.

"Stan will tell you what he needs, and he's more forgiving than most patients. You kill him, he'll keep coming back for more. So make good use of him, people," Dr Webber walked out.

"We're operating on robots now?" George asked Bailey.

"Can we please go back to pigs?" Alex asked.

"Yeah, what about people?" Cristina asked.

"Uh, when the chief decides which one of you gets to do the first solo surgery, you'll want to be ready," Bailey said.

"Wait, did you just say solo surgery?" George asked.

"I do not know what it will be. I do not know when it will be. I do know that the winner should be prepared to do any surgical procedure and will choose one intern to scrub in. So practice your skills, impress your attendings and just do not make me look stupid. Uh, Grey, Stevens, you're with Hahn. Yang, Montgomery-Sloan, the pit," I left.

I entered the trauma room with my interns, Lexie and the medics as we brought in a patient.

"Uh ... unidentified male, mid-30s, lost vitals in the field, shocked him back into sinus tach. Possible fractures in both arms, unstable pelvis," Jess, the medic said.

"Okay, on three. Two, three," I said as we transferred him off the gurney and onto the bed. "Good,"

"Open right tib/fib, rigid abdomen. Found him under a freeway overpass. Cops think someone threw him over," Jess said.

"After they beat him half to death?" I asked. Jess and the other medic Marcus left.

"His IV blew," Lexie said.

"Lieutenant, he needs that access now!" Hunt yelled.

"Working on it," I said putting a needle through his chest. "That will give us some time to re-establish the line," I explained to the interns as I began to put in a new line.

"Montgomery-Sloan not lieutenant," Hunt corrected.

"We actually kind of call her lieutenant too," Maxwell said.

We were still working on the patient and Torres had been called in to help stabilise his pelvis. I was running labs while Hunt and Torres worked on his pelvis.

"What does a guy have to do to get a beating this bad?" Torres asked.

"Maybe he'll tell us when he wakes up," Hunt said.

"Well, let's hope he makes it that long," Torres said.

"Grey, take these to the lab and then can you go see if there's any update on this guy's ID," I said handing her the bag before turning back to help.

"He's gonna need a chest tube, right?" Lexie asked. "'Cause I was just hoping with the solo surgery coming up ..." I cut her off.

"Grey, let's save a man's life," I said.

I walked back into the trauma room with fresh scans.

"New scans. Good," Hunt said. I pulled the scans up on the screen.

"There's a splenic subcapsular hematoma..." I began.

"I can look. Go update his-" I cut Hunt off.

"-chart?" I asked. "Already done," I said.

We were operating on our patient.

"Montgomery-Sloan, suction here please," Hunt said. I suctioned where he told me to do it. "Sloan's coming in for the mandibular repair?" Hunt asked.

"Yes," I said.

"Dr Hunt, how's our mystery man?" Mark asked coming in.

"Still with us. He's a fighter," Hunt said.

"Hate to be the other guy. Sage. Callie," Mark said.

I was in the daycare room sitting with Charlie as my pager went off.

"Bud, I've got to go but I'll be right back okay?" I asked. Charlie nodded. I stood up and walked out of the room before running towards the patients room. He was coding.

"Grey, why didn't you put in a chest tube?" I asked snapping on a pair of gloves.

"I don't know how," Lexie said.

"Well, it's time for you to learn," I said opening an instrument tray. "See one, do one, teach one. Put a pair of gloves on," I said. I talked Lexie through how to put in a chest tube. "Vitals are stable for now. But he's going to need a bedside cystogram. There's more blood in his urine,"

"What happened?" Hunt asked walking in.

"He coded. So Dr Grey did a chest tube but he's going to need a cystogram there's more blood in his urine now than before," I said.

I found Hunt in the on-call room.

"We've got an ID on our patient. His name is Tom and his wife has just come in and ID'd him. She wants to talk to you," I said.

"Thank you," Hunt said.

I walked into the house with Charlie and Harry after taking them to play baseball. The boys ran inside. Addison and Callie were in the kitchen.

"Addie, we hit the ball super high," Harry said.

"So high," Charlie said.

"I'm glad you both had fun. Now go wash up dinner's almost here," Addison said. Charlie and Harry both walked over to the sink and used the steps to wash their hands in the sink. "That goes for you too," Addison said.

"Yes ma'am," I said. We all washed up and then sat eating McDonalds at the table.
