Day 23

Addison and I were walking into the hospital. Amanda was sitting outside on a bench.

"You're on my service today," Addison said.

"I'm still being babysat?" I asked.

"You haven't gone in an OR since George died," Addison said. "You don't talk to anyone anymore. You don't eat and punch the punch bag in the garage until your hands are black and blue. I'm not babysitting you. I'm worried Sage. I want you to speak to someone please," Addison said.

"Okay. I'll call Dr Ryan and make an appointment," I said. "I'm sorry," I said.

"Do I need to be worried? Are you getting lost in there?" Addison asked as we got into the elevator.

"You don't need to be worried. I'm right here. I just don't know what's going on with my head right now. But I'm here so tonight how about we do burgers? Just us, our boys, Emily and Everett," I said. Addison nodded leaning in to kiss me.

Day Thirty-Nine

Addison and Bailey were talking at the OR board.

"I close my eyes and I flicker between George, my mom, and Scott. Last night my therapist wrote me a prescription for anti-anxiety meds so that I can sleep. I slept last night for the first night in 39 days," I said. "I've updated my personnel file and I would very much like to have surgery today. I need to get my head back," I said.

"Have you eaten?" Addison asked.

"Took the boys to the cafe before I dropped them off at the daycare and I ate a burrito," I said.

Timeskip

Harry, Charlie and I were jumping around on the trampoline that Mark got them for their birthday. Addison walked out onto the decking holding a glass of water.

"Stop bouncing a minute," Addison said walking over. We stopped. I unzipped the enclosure. Addison handed me a glass of water and the pill.

"Thank you," I said. Addison kissed me.

"Why do you take pills?" Charlie asked.

"Are you sick?" Harry asked.

"I'm not sick in a way that's easy to see. It's not something that can be fixed in surgery. So I take these pills to make me feel better," I said.

"Are you dying?" Charlie asked.

"No," I said.

"Is Sage dying?" Charlie asked Addison.

"No. She's not dying. I promise," Addison said.

"Can we have our cake now?" Harry asked.

"Pizza first then cake," I said.

"No. It's your birthday you get to eat cake before pizza," Addison said before turning to Charlie. "Don't worry we've got your brownies too,"

"Okay, who wants ice cream with their cake?" I asked.

"Me," Charlie and Harry yelled loudly.

"Let's go then," I said picking them up off the trampoline and throwing them over my shoulder before running towards the house. The boys sat down with cake and brownie with ice cream. Addison and I each had some ice cream.

"Ooh," Charlie said jumping up.

"What's wrong?" I asked. Charlie didn't say anything. He just ran over to his backpack under the coat rack. He pulled out a piece of paper and ran back over.

"Tuck and I drawed. His mom said we should put our names on them," Charlie said. "I want this to be my name," He pointed at the sheet of paper.

"Charlie Montgomery-Sloan?" Addison asked. Charlie nodded.

"Can that be my name too?" Harry asked. Addison and I looked at each other.

"We would love for that to be your names," Addison said.

"And we want you to be our mommies," Harry said.

"But there's two of you so we need two names for you," Charlie said.

"Addie, Mommy?" Harry asked. Addison nodded.

"Yeah," Addison smiled with tears in her eyes. I wiped her eyes.

"Sage you be Mama?" Charlie asked.

"I love it. Absolutely," I said.

Day 40

Chief Webber had gathered us all in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs.

"I know you all have heard a lot of rumours, and I'm sorry for that. And what I'm about to say will be hard to hear, and I'm sorry for that as well. The economic climate is... You all know what it is. In the coming weeks, Seattle Grace Hospital will be merging with Mercy West. I wish I could tell you you'll all survive the merger, but there are only so many jobs. And the board and I have some tough choices to make. I'm on your side, people. I'm rooting for every one of you. All I can say is please, be at your very best," Chief Webber said.
