Chapter26: There is this Great Divide

They were playing stories when Auntie Puffy came and said they were going on an adventure. Pyre hated adventures. Why would you want to be anywhere but the nice warm nest wrapped in all the blankets with all the cuddles.

Auntie Puffy said that Pyre could not stay in the nest all day anymore. Had to sit down Pyre and explain that it was dangerous for Pyre to dwell in instincts too long. That long ago little fledglings could stay in the nest all they wanted and toddle after their sire but Pyre could not. Because it was dangerous now.

Pyre thought Auntie Puffy was stupid because how could there be any danger if she was wrapped in her sires arms? Nevertheless after only a few months in the nest Pyre was being 'weaned off instincts'.

Pyre did not like being 'weaned'.

It made her sad.

Leaving the house and consequently the nest was really scary. It wasn't too scary because Auntie Puffy held her hand and Carl was a big horse.

They walked for ever.

Pyre wanted to go home and said so at every opportunity until Phantom brought out the scissors so Pyre was quiet.

Then they tried to leave her with Carl and go away so Pyre wasn't quiet anymore. Pyre cried even though Frog said she should not because she was a big girl and big girls don't cry. But they were going to leave Pyre all by herself!

So Phantom gave Pyre her back up scissors and Pyre got to go.

There was a big bird man. The birdman smelt like old people. There was a black and white man. Black and white man was crying.

Then Frog was crying.

Everyone was crying and shouting and being awful and Pyre didn't understand why they were being so mean to each other. People crying made Pyre want to cry.

Then this man called "Ant- '' something or other tied Pyre's wrists together and that really hurt. Pyre tried to kick and scream and get her way but it didn't work on Ant man.

Now Pyre was in time out.

It wasn't so bad. Everyone else was in time out too and they could all talk and  sing songs together even if everyone got upset when Pyre sang songs saying it was "annoying" but they are stupid so, ha!

And in this time out Pyre didn't need to face the corner but-

"I'm hungry." Pyre whines melting to the floor.

"We are all hungry." Jack grumbled through the door.

Pyre thought Jack was stupid.

"Auntie Puffy never misses snack time." Pyre complained.

Nikki did that shushing thing again all sweet and reassuring but Pyre didn't understand why and she doesn't care anymore. "I want Auntie Puffy."

"Pyre." Nikki sighed. "Puffy had to go away for a while."

"I want Puffy." Pyre fussed, kicking her foot against the stone. Then stopped because big girls don't 'tantum' 'tanrim' tantantatan'.

"Pyre."

"Nikki." Pyre mimicked. "Hungry."

"Oh my prime, shut up." said the sad man.

Sad man was sad, and he lived in the corner of the time out room. He had a lot of imaginary friends. Pyre knew because he talked to them all the time. But sad man was embarrassed to have imaginary friends because he never talked loud enough for anyone else to hear. So when Pyre told Nikki that sad man was awake and talking she always told her to leave him alone.
