Today was seeming like a pretty ordinary/typical day. I hadn't talked to Josh, but that wasn't terrible. We didn't always talk.
I showed up home after school and lounged around for the next few hours. I felt so exhausted, I didn't feel like doing anything.
I was doing dishes when I heard the front door open.
"You told Josh you liked him?" Jay asked practically running into the kitchen.
"What are you talking about?" I said. I just thought he was being annoying.
"You told Josh you like really liked him when you were drunk." Jay said.
"What?" I asked, feeling my heart drop to my feet. "Did he tell you that?"
"No, I heard him talking to Jake." He said.
"Oh my god." I said sitting down. "Did you just mishear him?"
"No, I listened for a while. He was talking about how you kept telling him you liked him. And he didn't know if you remembered it."
"Oh no." I said. "No, this cannot be happening!" I ran my hands through my hair feeling like everything was falling apart.
"What else did he say?" I asked.
"I didn't listen anymore. I didn't want him to know I was eavesdropping." He said.
"Of course you didn't." I said sitting against the back of my chair.
"I'm sorry." He said.
"No, no, it's not your fault." I said standing up. "You helped me out if anything."
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"Mayas." I said. I went to tell my mom, glad she didn't question it.
I drove the whole way racking my brain.
Is that why we didn't talk? Was he avoiding me?
I pulled into Maya's driveway and got out. I knocked on the door for her parents sake, and the door soon opened.
"Oh, hi, juliette." Her little sister answered the door.
"Hi, Lacey." I said. "Is Maya home?"
"In her room." She said.
"Thanks." I said. I walked by Lacey to get to Maya. I opened the door to see her looking at her butt in the mirror.
"Lacey! I told you to knock!" She turned around and a surprised expression showed up on her face.
"Julie?" She asked.
"You were right." I said. "In the worst way possible."
"You have to be more specific, I'm right quite often." She said.
"You know how you were saying I might've revealed to Josh how I liked him Saturday night?" I said.
"Yeah." She nodded trying to keep up. Her face switched as it clicked in what I was saying. "Oh no, Juliette..."
"Exactly." I said. I went to her bed and sat down.
"What am I supposed to do?" I asked.
"Talk to him? I don't really know." She said sitting beside me.
"I can't talk to him." I said. "I don't think I can physically look him in the face without throwing myself out the window."
"You're gonna have to talk to him." She said. "You're in the play together."
"We don't rehearse until Friday." I said.
She looked at me trying to figure out a solution, drawing a blank.
