"Are you going to tell me something?" asks Maggie. "What are you holding, Maggie?" Sarah asks. "It was on the doorstep when I got back from school. It didn't say who it was for, so I just opened it," Maggie said. "Can I look at it?" Sarah asks. "Okay," Maggie said.
Maggie hands her mother the note she is holding. Sarah opens the note and sees what it says. When she has a look at what is on it, she is completely in shock. Maggie looks at her mother a little strangely. She has no idea what's going on. But Sarah knows exactly what it is. It is, in fact, a picture of Lyanna and herself kissing. And it also says something underneath the picture.
"Be careful where you kiss"
"Mom, what is this? Is that you kissing someone? With Lyanna? What, no, tell me everything," Maggie said. "Maggie, sit down for a minute. I want to start telling you things but it's a long story," Sarah said. "Oh okay," Maggie said. "Maggie, that is not why your father and I got divorced. That's what I wanted to say first," said Sarah. "Mom, just tell me what the hell is going on. I am so confused," Maggie said. "Lyanna and I have been good friends for a long time, you know that," Sarah said. "Yes, right, Lyanna is a good friend of yours," Maggie said. "Well, the thing is. We're not just good friends, she's my girlfriend," Sarah said. "Your girlfriend? But you were married to Daddy for so long, weren't you happy then? Wouldn't you rather be with a woman?" asked Maggie. "No, honey. Your father and I had a great time together, but things are better now. We weren't happy together anymore. And now I'm with Lyanna and she makes me happy again," Sarah said. "If she makes you happy, that's fine with me. But if she hurts you, I'm going to let her know that she can't just hurt you," Maggie said. "You're not going to hurt Lyanna, dear. But is there anything else you need to know? Did I explain it right?" asks Sarah. "Yes, you did, mom. I'm so glad you told me," Maggie said. "I need to be more honest with the both of you. I'm going to tell your little brother too. He needs clarification too. By the way, I asked Lyanna if she could help you with your homework today. She'll be here after dinner to help you for a while," Sarah said. "Thanks mom, you're the best. I love you so much," Maggie said. "I love you too," Sarah said.
Maggie went into her room. Sarah sat on the couch. She was glad to have had this talk. She wanted to be honest with Maggie, but still found it very difficult to tell her. It's done. Sarah thought. Hailey and Ellie know, Maggie knows, and she's going to tell her son, too. She went straight to his room to tell him the whole story. She wanted him to be done with finding out without an explanation. When she told him, he was happier than Sarah thought he would be. He was very happy for his mother and supported her completely. Sarah was very relieved. She considers her children's opinions to be perhaps the most important. But both of them were very happy for her, it was just that her son hadn't quite realized how she felt yet. After dinner, Sarah tidied up the house and then Lyanna was at the door. Sarah opened the door and went inside.
"Lyanna, before you go in I need to tell you something," Sarah said. "Oh, that sounds serious. What's wrong?" asked Lyanna. "Nothing serious, but I told the children about us. At least now you know," Sarah said. "Okay, how nice Sarah. How did they take it?" asks Lyanna. "They both took it well," Sarah said. "But why did you tell them? Was it an impulsive act?" asks Lyanna. "I was indirectly compelled," Sarah said. "How do you mean?" asks Lyanna. "Well, someone left us a note with a picture of us typed underneath, be careful where you kiss. And Maggie found this," Sarah said. "You think it was from Hailey and Ellie too," Lyanna said. "Yeah, sure. They're going to kill me," Sarah said. "We really need to do something about this, Sarah," Lyanna said. "I know, but first go help Maggie with her Dutch. We'll talk more about this later," Sarah said. "Okay Sarah. If that's what you want," Lyanna said. "Thank you for understanding," Sarah said.
Lyanna and Sarah go inside. Sarah calls Maggie downstairs and a moment later Maggie is downstairs with her books. Lyanna and Maggie sit down at the table and Sarah gets them some drinks. Then she goes to her room to finish some work.
"What are you still dealing with, Maggie?" asks Lyanna. "I know about your relationship," Maggie says. "I know about that. How do you feel about it?" asks Lyanna. "I like you, and apparently my mother does too. But I am very happy for you; you are a perfect match for my mother. Take good care of her. Promise me that," Maggie says. "I promise Maggie. I will take good care of her," Lyanna said. "Good. I'm still having trouble with this part. Can you help me with that?" asked Maggie. "Of course," Lyanna said.
Lyanna is relieved. She was having a hard time anyway. But they are her children, they have to like her. But if Maggie likes her, her little brother will too.
