It often happens when everything is going great, reality likes to slap you hard in the face and karma will come knocking. All to remind you that life sucks and is unfair.
Middle of June, a noise roused Lena in the middle of the night and she got up. Checking on Havu before going outside. The horses were fine, what was that noise then? Lena walked the wrap around porch and found nothing.
Strange... she shrugged and wandered back inside.
She got to the door before Sparks attacked her ankle. She screamed out and bashed him over the head with the nearest thing to the door, a shovel. He was stunned for a moment as she ran inside. Her leg bleeding she huffed. The hound leapt at her and Striker opened the bedroom door revolver in hand.
"What the fuck?" Striker blinked and took aim.
Sparks tackled Lena and she went down on the floor hard. She turned and the two started hitting each other. The hound stood and started kicking her in the gut. Lena screamed, a shot rang out and Sparks fell to the ground dead.
"Lena!" Striker ran to her and helped her up.
She stood and to the bathroom, barfing.
Striker huffed and lifted the dead hound, tossing him outside. He came back and checked on her. "Hun, are you okay?"
"I... n-not really." Lena's voice sounded upset.
"Pumpkin..." he tried to open the door it was locked. "Open the door... please."
"Striker.. not now." She sniffled.
"Babe please, Ah need to know yer okay."
"I'm fine.."
It was a lie, he could hear her voice shaking. She was in pain. "Honey please open the door." His voice urgent.
"Striker please! Not now." She was crying, something was wrong.
"Babe Ah wanna help you." He said.
"This is all my fault..."
Striker growled and broke the door down. "Pumpkin are you..." he gasped.
Lena sat on the floor, blood all over the floor and toilet. She was shuddering, her stomach was no longer full of life. "It's all my fault..."
Striker looked over to her and walked over. "No... no... shhh." He hugged her and felt her shivering all over.
"It's all my fault..."
"No..."
"I should have stayed inside..." she cried and held to him.
"Baby please." He nuzzled her.
She whined and clung to him. He held her close and tried hard to keep her from shuddering. He looked around, he'd worry about cleaning this up later. He lifted her, cleaned her and got her to bed. Then he got to work cleaning the bathroom, tail swaying. Lamenting the child that could have been. They'd have to tell Havu. "Fuck..." he shuddered. "This isn't what Ah wanted... dammit."

The next morning Striker woke, the bed was empty. He stood and walked into the livingroom. Lena was laying on a pillow by the fireplace, staring at the flames.
Havu was sitting on the couch, turned her head and said, "Daddy, what's wrong with mommy?"
Striker took a breath and picked Havu up taking her outside. "Mommy is sad because that little life that was gonna be a little brother or sister for you.. it died inside her and came out in the worst way... mommy is gonna be sad for a while... so be strong hun."
Havu sniffled. "Mommy sad because no more baby... that's..." she hugged him and cried a little.
Striker held her close. "It's very sad, so sad that mommy isn't feeling good. So we gotta keep an eye on mommy. Okay?"
Havu nodded.
"Just gotta make sure we don't lose mommy." Striker said.
"Okay."

Two days, Lena didn't eat or drink anything. Moving from the bed to the pillow in front of the fireplace only. She didn't speak to anyone or respond to any touch.
Striker had told everyone. No one, not even her grandparents.. not Tommy, nor Kygo or Belle could get through to her. Not Rita, Shade or Sueann. No one could break Lena out of her thoughts.
Day three, Striker made grilled cheese for lunch, with extra cheese. He sat next to Lena after making sure Havu had hers. "Hun... you gotta eat."
Lena huffed and curled up.
Striker sighed. "Ya can't blame yourself for what happened."
Lena growled and tears formed in her eyes.
"Ah know yer upset, we all are. But hun, would that little one want you killing yourself or would they want you to be there for Havu.. the little girl who still needs you?"
She huffed and stole a sandwich with her teeth and ate, grumbling.
"Ah love you too." Striker smiled and curled his tail with hers, feeling her tail squeeze his.

Two more days, she was silent but she ate and drank normally.
She was up late one night, eating ice cream and crying silently to herself. Striker was behind her, arms around her, head atop hers. He was being supportive and comforting. They were watching "A Dog's Purpose " which was followed by the sequel.
Havu was asleep in bed already with Astrila watching over her.
While they watched the movie, near then end Lena spoke. "Dogs are good, so good." She sniffled.
Striker held her, their tails intertwined. "Yes hun, they are."
Lena leaned on him and sniffled. He held her close and nuzzled her, kissing her cheek. She cuddled into him and passed out as the credits rolled.
He smiled and shut everything off, carrying her while checking the locks. He headed to bed and they cuddled that night.
