"What is that?" Lena asked and moved over to the cage.

"Don't get too close them Helfoxes are crafty bastards." James stared at it.

"He looks too young to be troublesome grandpa." Lena said and knelt down. "He's scared."

Striker saw how Lena was looking at the creature and sighed.

Drake and Brash chuckled.  They both knew what Striker did. Lena had a big heart and a nurturing spirit there was no way she was gonna let the fox stay caged.

James picked up on the vibe of the group and knelt down opening the cage and plucked the fox out by his scruff. "Hellfoxes are tricky and crafty, little thieves."

Lena stood and took the fox, rubbing his ears. "Oh he's not so bad."

The twin tail fox looked at her and blinked then nuzzled into her.

"Hehe see. Besides I bet he lost his mom or something." Lena reasoned and held him close.

That's when the fox poofed and became a standing fox. "Thank you ma'am." The voice clearly that of a child. "Yer right I did lose my mom.  I was just looking for food." He wore a simple blue hoodie and matching pants. He wasn't much taller then Lena. "I've just turned thirteen." He explained.

"Why are you bothering the mares?" Lena asked.

"They sometimes have milk... I didn't mean to cause any problems." He sighed.

"Well no more stealing, you could have asked for help." James said.

"Well you were always chasing me away, throwing sticks and stuff. I was scared." He said.

"Do you have a name?" Lena asked.

"Mom called he Tommy." He giggled.

"Oh, okay." Lena smiled and rubbed his ears. "So you shapeshift?"

"Mhm, mom was starting to teach me when she died. She was sick, I was her last kit." He explained.

"Can you turn into anything?" She asked.

"Momma said I should be able to." He blushed and wagged his tails.

Lena smiled some. "Well maybe instead of trying to steal, maybe if you protect the farm..."

James smiled. "If you protect this place, you can live here and we'll feed ya."

Tommy wagged his tails. "Really!?"

James nodded and Striker smiled. Lena always had a way of making things work out. This meant that Tommy was family now.

James nodded and lead them inside.

Lena took his hand and smiled. "They have a spare room I'm sure. C'mon." She smiled and lead him inside.

Havu was whining softly and looked to Lena. "Mmmmmmm. Eh..." she grabbed for Lena.

Lena picked up her little daughter immediately and knew what to do. She walked to another room to feed her.

Barb and James settled Tommy into his new room.

Striker, Drake and Brash started on dinner.

After dinner Lena held Havu in her arms, the child passed out.

Barb smiled some. "Ya'll come visit anytime."

James nodded some. "Just come over anytime."

They hugged and said their goodbyes. Lena promising to visit with Havu when life gave her a chance.

Tommy smiled, he promised to not steal anymore and help watch over the farm.

Once home Lena put Havu down for the night then passed out on her own bed curled up with Striker.  Everything seemed so perfect.

Problem with that was, for every streak of good events... came a series of unfortunate ones.
