Another ping, signaling my arrival on the top floor. I knew they knew I was here. I knew they weren't far away. Probably stood how I had been. I stood there for a few seconds. They'd get impatient eventually. Waiting for death to take one of us. And it wasn't going to be me. I had shit to do.
I got impatient first, sighing and stepping forward quickly.
"You really shouldn't keep a lady waiting." I rolled my eyes.
"You're no lady." A man wrapped his hand around my hair, pulling me to the wall and whacking my head against it. I could feel my own blood start to trickle down my face.
"Oh now you've really done it." I pushed my elbow pack into his ribs, making him drop his grip on me so I could turn around. This turned into a fist fight a little too quickly for my liking. Good job I'd been working on my boxing huh? I let him pull me down to the floor with a thud, distraction enough whilst I got my hand into my pocket for the knife. God I loved the me from 25 minutes ago. Always thinking ahead.
His fist collided with my face and the taste of blood down the back of my throat was unmistakable. I winked at him which caught him off guard as I sunk my knife into his spleen, twisting a few times for optimum damage.
"LUCIANO." He shouted and I pushed him off me, standing up and looking over him.
"Aww. Does the baby want some help?" I pouted, looking in the direction he was. "I'm looking for a Luciano? I thought Luci was a girls name?" I shouted, moving away from his body.
"Jam-" A man appeared around the corner, stopping dead in his tracks. "Ana?"
"Luca?" I laughed, putting my tongue on my teeth. "Of course, family business. Durh."
"What are you- YOU'RE HER?"
"The girl that's just slaughtered the last of your men? Yeah. That's me." I cocked my gun. "You going to stand in the way or shall I just pull the trigger?"
"I did not think this is how we'd be meeting again. You've got a little blood-"
"Yeah I know. I'm not to happy about it." I wiped my face with the back of my hand. "Move out the way then. I've got some people I'm here to save."
"I can't let you do that Ana. I need them here."
"And I need them out of here." I looked at my nails. "Ugh. Fucking blood stains so bad." I brought my eyes back up to his baby blues. "I warned you at the club that day, didn't I. That I don't let feelings get in the way of what needs to be done?"
"If I remember rightly you did." He nodded.
"Good." I pulled the trigger, letting it ripple through his rib cage. "I warned you." I shrugged. "Such a shame. You've got beautiful eyes." I moved closer to him as he fell down the wall, kicking his gun out of his hand. He looked up at me, laughing.
"You're a lot tougher than I thought you were."
"People tend to underestimate me."
"You really didn't feel anything when I kissed you?"
"Oh no. I did." I nodded. "Maybe if we'd have been lucky I'd have seen you out again. Shame you'll be in ground soon though." He put his hand on my face, covering it in his own blood.
"You are fucking brilliant." He smiled. "I should have kissed you sooner."
"Yeah you should have." I nodded. "Now if you'll excuse me. I have some people to get out of here."
I stood up, moving from him, making sure to strut a little more.
"Lorenzo. You're clear out here." I said half way down the hall and the door opened. "Let's go. Come on I don't have all day. Arlo will be back soon and he's gonna go mad at all this blood."
"Maddy, are you okay?"
"I'm fine." I wiped some more blood away wiping it down my jeans. "Lets go."
"How'd you get here?"
"My bike." We turned and started walking back down the hall where Luci was trying to stand up. "Have a nice painful death Luci." I smirked as he stood against the wall, hand over his wound. It wasn't bleeding too badly.
"Oh I'm not going anywhere beautiful. I'll see you around." He narrowed his eyes at me and I smiled, walking past him, men falling on either side of me, like a little group of protectors. That I definitely didn't just save from cowering in a corner from a hand full of guys that took me 10 minutes to take down.
"Do you know who that was?" Lorenzo asked as the elevator doors opened and we stepped in. Me turning and locking eyes with him.
"Barely." I had an evil grin on my face and he was just stood there, looking between his blood stained hands and me.
"He's a Bonetti. Like. THE Bonetti. The heir."
"Well he was." I snickered as the doors closed. This is precisely why we don't get feelings. In this kind of business, feelings causes problems. I'd have had to decide who I wanted to save there. Him or my standing in the family. If I'd have chosen him, I'd be killed and if I didn't kill him, he'd have ended up killing me first.
Feelings just get in the way of shit. So much easier to just, not. Although, knowing who he was kind of made this whole thing more fun.
I mean the night at the club makes sense. His whole 'he doesn't know who he's messing with' and 'you're safe with me, they're all scared of me' vibe. The speak easy, the drink, the tattoos, the car. Of course he was mafia like me. I attracted them. Like a magnet, they were drawn to me.
"Maddy?" I lifted my head up, looking Lorenzo who turned me and looked at my head as the elevator went down. "You can't drive home with this. Let me take you back."
"I'm not leaving my bike here." I raised my eyebrows, furrowing them immediately at the pain I didn't realise I had. Yeah probably best I don't drive right now. I feel a little dizzy now the adrenaline is fading.
"Give me the keys, I'll take it home for you." I turned my head, smiling at James, handing him my keys from my pocket.
"Scratch it and you'll be paying for it sorting." He chuckled saluting to me in an agreement as the elevator doors opened.
"Jesus Maddy. Is this your blood bath?"
"Hey, you didn't tell me I couldn't have some fun whilst I came to save your asses." I smiled. "Why do my footsteps look so weird in blood?" I chuckled, stepping out.
