The way Lu gripped my leg the whole way there was sending my head in spirals. I kept looking up at him as the other guys were talking through our earpieces. They were laughing about something but honestly I wasn't listening. I had my earphone in the other ear, sharing it with Lu who was just shaking his head as I bopped along.
The cars ahead pulled up in an alley as they had planned, us falling in the middle of them. Lu parked up, leaning over and flicking my mic off, doing the same with his.
"How you feeling?" His grip on my thigh tightened and released, wrapping my my hand instead.
"Fine yeah." I nodded quickly.
"Are you ready?"
"Always." I smiled at him.
"Good." He let go of my hand, un buckling my seatbelt, then his own before climbing out and quickly running around to my door, opening it and offering a hand to help me out. I took it, smiling sweetly.
"There's the woman of the hour." I looked up as Z and Ethan approached the car. They'd actually taken my advice and were wearing all black rather than the suits they usually wear. Hopefully it meant they'd have more movement and could actually shoot on this one.
"Are you 2 seriously listening to music right now?" Ethan looked at my earphone as I clipped my guns into their holsters, making sure I had plenty of ammo along with my knives.
We knew this wasn't going to be an easy take down. We were expecting maybe 50-60 guys here tonight. And if they could take down the people my dad had guarding me, I knew they were a force to be reckoned with. But here's the thing, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
"Yeah. Too damn right." Lu handed Ethan the earphone and he chuckled, shaking his head as he wiggled from side to side making all 4 of us laugh. "She has a good playlist for this kind of thing." I scrunched my face up.
"Send me it. I'll send it to dad, get it sent through all the earphones." I looked at Lu who shrugged. "Please?"
"Did you just say please?" I raised an eyebrow. "I have never heard you say that in my life." I pulled my phone from my coat pocket, unlocking it and handing it to Ethan so he could do what he wanted to. I was busy gearing up anyway. I turned my mic back on, knowing everyone could hear us now as they continued speaking about the playlist.
"What's your favourite on here Mads?" Ethan was scrolling. "Because this is such a range. Like some bubblegum pop, rock, country." He laughed. "God, what am I setting us up to listen to."
"No some of them are really good." I took the earphone from Ethan as it started playing over everyone's earphones. I could see all the other guys looking around confused as hell. "I don't really have a favourite. They're all on the list for a reason. Hand selected specifically for jobs like this. You'll see why I'm always dancing when I'm working." I chuckled. "If any of you start dancing or strutting I will actually piss myself too."
We were just stood, waiting now. This was the worst bit. Waiting for the people back home to lock into the cameras. Once they were in we knew what to be expecting, where we needed to be going. We could plan. I was stood with Z beside me looking over the floor plans again. We stood tracing fingers along the route deciding who should go where.
"Maddy, Z?" Tommas spoke over the earphones. I'm guessing he'd singled both our mics.
"Hi." I smiled looking down at the paper. Z responded too. "What's up?"
"It's looking like there's more there than we were expecting." I looked at Z. Remain calm don't stress everyone else out I shook my head at him slowly, telling him exactly what I was telling myself.
"It looks like about 90." Nicky spoke. "We're sending some of the guys here down. You're gonna need all the help you can get." I sighed, rubbing my temples. Lu rubbed my back and I put my hand back, carefully taking him off me. Now was not the time. "They'll be there in about 10 but you need to brief everyone there." Z nudged me.
"Me?" I pointed at myself and he nodded. "Why me? You're their boss not me."
"Because tonight you are Mads." Z stated plainly.
"We're switching you back to the main channel now." I heard the click and turned my mic off, laying my head down on the car hood. Right okay. I guess this is me then. "Lu-" I turned to him. "Help me up." He furrowed his brows but did as I asked and I switched the mic back on. "Can everyone hear me?" They all turned and looked at me. I sighed again. I hate having so many people watching me. "Pop your hand up if you can hear me guys. I need to know you all can." Slowly all their hands came up. "Brill." I looked down at Z who I think was still on the other channel, he was writing down numbers and circling things.
"Okay so, it looks a little worse than we were expecting. I know we were expecting about 60 ish, it looks like there's an extra 30 ish guys in there." They all looked amongst each other. "Look." They didn't I could hear them all chattering. "Hello?" I rolled my eyes. "OI I'M STILL FUCKING TALKING." They stopped all looking back at me. "Just because I'm a fucking woman doesn't mean you can be so disrespectful. God." Lu laughed as I crossed my arms. There we go, that confidence was kicking in. "Do you guys trust me?" I could see them snicker. "So you don't no? Come on be honest. It's because of my dad right? I know most of you worked for him." Their eyes widened. "I'm not afraid to talk about him, or how bad of a job he did." I laid my head back sighing and looking down at Lu. God give me strength.
"Here's the thing. Not many people know what happened that night. And I know you guys didn't really like him, that you work for Tommas now, that's where your loyalties lie, not with me, not with my name. That's fine. I get it. But maybe if you knew, you would understand." Lu grabbed my leg and I looked down.
"You don't have to tell them Mads."
"No I do, their about to go in their and risk their lives for someone they don't know. They don't know why we're going in here. Literally only the 2 of us know the full story." I looked at Z and Ethan who were watching me too as I started explaining.
