"I'm so glad you made me buy this dress Pip." I smiled, putting another empty glass down on the table. I still have no idea what Lu was giving me to drink but they were good and I could feel them soaking into my bloodstream and that's all that mattered tonight. That and the fact that the boys were just staring at his marks all over me from a few nights ago. It was hilarious to me and I know he was loving it.
"Mm!" Piper nodded, taking a sip of her drink. "Me too. It looks so much better on than it did on the hanger." Lu's grip on my thigh tightened, causing me to move into him a little more.
"You look so good in white." He whispered in my ear, fingers moving up my leg. "Don't make this obvious." I turned back to the rest of the table, trying to keep my face normal as he trailed up my thighs, starting under my dress. Oh god. He needed to stop we couldn't do this here. I'd let him bend me over the table if he did. I slapped my hand on top of his, the dress between our hands. I was trying hard to focus on the 3 siblings and their conversation but between the music and my heart beat pounding I couldn't hear a thing. "You're not behaving." His breath against my ear made me grip my nails into him, slowly turning to look at him.
"Wait until we get back." I whispered back. "Please?" He nodded, pulling his hand out of my dress and wrapping it around my waist and pulling me into his lap. He made a series of movements so smooth and easy. Almost seamless.
Piper's eyes were wide, staring at me and I just chuckled. I don't think I'd ever been public with someone I had a relationship with. I tended to keep things behind closed doors. Not secret, but private. I didn't like people knowing I wasn't single. Not really. But for him I was breaking every single one of my rules and it wasn't even a second thought now.
"Maddy." She shook her head. She wasn't looking at me. Neither were Zander and Ethan. "You need to go."
"What? Why-" I turned my head. Shit. "How did he-" I watched my phone ring with his name. "Fucking tracking my phone."
"What?" Lu turned his head to see what we were all talking about as I turned my phone off.
"We need to go." I slid out of the table, grabbing Lu's hand and pulling him.
"We're not going babe." Lu shook his head. "He can just deal with it. I'm enjoying being out with you."
"Please Lu. Let's just go. I don't want him to find me." I shook my head pulling tighter. "I'm leaving with or without you." I pulled my bag up, pushing my phone into my bag.
The good news is he was looking for someone wearing black. That's all I wore. Ever. He had James and another guy stood by the door as he wandered around the crowd. Slow and quiet. I think he was trying to catch me off guard but I knew exactly where he was.
How the fuck do I get out of this now. Lu wrapped his hand in mine, causing me to take my eyes off Arlo for a second.
"He's not going to touch you Mads. I won't let him." I swallowed. This is why it could have never worked with Arlo, he made me so fucking scared. I was terrified of being alone with him. He was like my dad. A moving tornado who doesn't care what gets destroyed in his path. He stepped forward, kissing my head softly. "Lets get you out of here and somewhere safe." I nodded. He had definitely made me go soft for him. I hadn't even noticed. I didn't even have my fucking gun with me tonight. God if this goes south Arlo would use that. "Keep your head down baby."
I looked down at the floor as Lu pulled me through the crowd. I could see his legs, too close for comfort. And I couldn't breathe. Seeing his dark, determined eyes across the room had made me feel like my lungs were filling with sand. My heart was beating hard still. But not because of Lu this time. Not with anticipation.
"Bonetti." Shit. We were by the door. Had to be James. Had to be. He saw me that day. After I shot him. I don't think he knows about me and Lu. Hopefully he didn't. "You're supposed to be dead." James would tell Arlo he was here. No doubt about that and then Arlo would know I hadn't been alone here this week. He wouldn't even second guess it. I could deny it of course, until I'm home. I didn't want to but I could just say I hadn't seen him.
"Dunno what to tell you." Lu chuckled, gripping my hand and pulling me into his back, hiding me. "A simple gunshot isn't going to take me out."
"Who's the girl?"
"What girl?"
"The one behind your back."
"Come on man. You're cock blocking right now. Move out the way."
"He'll find you. You know that don't you. For touching his girl. Now he knows you're alive. He'll make sure he finishes what she couldn't." I dug my nails into Lu's hand.
"What like he scares me?" Lu's voice was snarky. "None of you scare me." I was looking at the feet around me, looking for him, hoping that Ethan and Zander were close by but keeping Piper out of this.
"Luca. I thought you were leaving." Ethan. I sighed as he put a hand on my lower back. Making sure I knew he was there too.
"We were but these twats won't get out the fucking way." I sighed. They weren't going to move. They wanted Arlo to see him. They wanted Arlo to finish what I 'should have'. I knew where this was going. I looked up at Ethan, lowering my brow. He shook his head, knowing what I was thinking.
"Just fucking move James." I snapped, lifting my head up. He looked at me, then behind me into the crowd. "You're such an ass." I stood up straight.
"Maddy. Arlo's looking for you."
"I know. That's why I'm leaving." I walked around the front of Lu, pushing my shoulders back. "Don't make me make a fucking scene James. You know I will." He moved his hand, thinking I'd shoot him if he didn't. "Smart choice. Eth, you should get Pip home." He took his hand off my back as I walked out the club a little quicker than I could have.
We ran. Literally running down the street and hailing a cab around the corner.
"So he knows you're with me." Lu said as he climbed into the car beside me, letting it take off. "What's going to happen next?"
"He's going to track one of us down. Turn your phone off."
"Why? He doesn't-"
"Just do it." I snapped. "The boys will tell Tommas so at least he knows, there will be people dotted around the hotel, keeping an eye out for him. We should be fine. Just need to keep out of the way until I can get home. Chances are, Tommas will call Nicky kicking off. God he couldn't just follow the instructions I gave him. Give me space Arlo. Let me be. Don't try to find me."
"Just let me kill him already." I looked down at our hands, wrapped together. I shook my head.
"I can't do that to Nicky." I looked up. "Plus if anyone is pulling the trigger on him it's going to be me."
