1200 miles.

I driven to the edge of the state and flown down here. My car never leaving the state. Telling him I was going to see my aunt in Portland. I was in LA. Just a little bit further away than I told him.

I was deadly serious about moving away. And where better to start than one of the biggest cities in the world. Stepping out the airport and into the rented car felt so freaking good. Just like it had when I did it a few months ago. I felt good to be away from him. That's another reason I had to leave him. Leave that life behind.

Another positive to not having feelings, I wasn't bothered about leaving everyone behind. I was just glad to get away from him. It would be a rough start but I'd get there. I wasn't scared of a little fight.

I laid my head back, resting for a few seconds before setting off to the hotel. I wasn't wearing something that would stand out in this crowd. Comfortable, normal. Black leather jacket, black ripped jeans and a basic white crop top. I didn't want to stand out right now. Not until I was down here and moved in. Settled and set up.

The half hour drive to the hotel goes by quick when you're taking in your surroundings. I was already pretty much set on this house. Able to buy it outright thanks to my parents money and have more than enough spare to furnish it all. As it was, it didn't need any work doing. I don't think so anyway. This viewing was more to check that out.

If I was happy with it in person I would be putting an offer in whilst I was here. Hopefully it would get accepted quickly and I can be in within the next 4 months. I can't stand any more than that back there. I don't think so anyway.

"Checking in?"

"Yeah. Should be under Maddy Del Greco?" She nodded, taking my ID and searching through her system. I filled out paper work, listening to the birds outside. This place was so peaceful. So far away. So calm. I specifically booked here for that reason. A room with a private pool. Out of the way. She smiled, handing me a room key and directing me to my room. I thanked her, standing up straight.

"Let me help you with the bag Angel." I spun around quickly, eyes widening as his hand wrapped around my hip, pulling me close. "Don't react baby, we're being watched." I smiled sweetly. "Shall we go?" I nodded slowly, moving away from the desk and in the direction the woman told me.

"Who's watching?" I asked once we were down the corridor.

"Just the clerk." I turned to him, glaring. "I had to get you to keep quiet didn't I? Otherwise you'd be stood there pulling another gun on me." I pushed his hand off me.

"You're supposed to be dead." My voice came out as a whisper shout, standing still in the corridor. "Dead, long dead. Not here in fucking LA breathing."

"I wasn't expecting on seeing you either beautiful, don't worry." He smirked. "You look good in black." I snatched my bag from his hands. "How long you here for?"

"A few days."

"What a coincidence. Me too." I stared into his baby blue eyes. There goes my quiet little break huh?

"How are you still-"

"Breathing?" He chuckled. "It was one shot Maddy. I was fine. You went straight through though. In one side, out the other." His eyebrows raised. I wasn't going to address him calling me Maddy. There was no point, he likely knew exactly who I was by now. "I knew you boxed but I didn't think you were such a good shot as well."

"There's a lot you didn't know isn't there?"

"Yeah, there is. Where's your boyfriend?"

"Arlo, again, not my boyfriend, is back home."

"Does he know you're out here, all alone?"

"Nope." I popped the P turning on my heel and making some more distance towards my room. "He's not my boyfriend. It's none of his business where I am." I slid the key into my door, pushing my bag in and slamming it closed so he couldn't get in.

"You not going in?"

"For you to try get in with me? Not a chance. I don't feel like causing a blood bath here either. Not right now." I crossed my arms.

"So you'd shoot me again then?"

"If I was in the position where I needed to, yeah. And I wouldn't make sure I didn't kill you this time either."

"Aww so you did let your feelings get in to it?"

"What? No. That's not what I said."

"You said that you wouldn't make sure you didn't kill me. Meaning that's what you did the first time." He smirked, stepping forward. "You looked so hot that day, covered in blood, carrying a gun. I liked when a girl can hold her own."

"It's a shame that you're dead then isn't it." I smirked back at him, watching as he slowly shook his head.

"I watched the CCTV back a few weeks ago. Trying to work out who the fuck you were so I could track you down. But then I had to come out here for work."

"You work out here?"

"Sometimes. Why'd you ask?"

"I'm moving out here. I think. Well was. I'm not now I know you'll be here."

"Why not?"

"I'm looking for a fresh start. To get away from everything and everyone from back there. If you're here that kind of defeats the point. Also I don't need you going back and spreading where I am when they're looking for me."

"Why would they be looking for y- Wait. You're not telling lover boy you're moving?" He laughed. "You really don't like him do you?"

"That abusive prick? No."

"He's-" He narrowed his eyes at me. "He abu-"

"Oh stop it." I rolled my eyes.

"No. He hurts you? Where? Show me."

"He doesn't hurt me Luci."

"Don't call me that."

"You called me Angel." We locked eyes. God those eyes. Twinkling like the night sky. "Stop looking at me like that."

"Like what?"

"Like you did that night at the club."

"I didn't look at you anyway at the club." He smiled and his eyes brightened, damn cause and effect. His smile makes me smile and its disgusting.

"Yes you did."

"What are you doing tonight? Have you got any plans?"

"I was just going to chill. I've got a busy day tomorrow."

"Doing what?"

"House hunting."

"Thought you weren't going to move out here now you know I'm here."

"I'm not but I can't just dump appointments, plus some of the places I've booked are really nice I could get some inspiration for my own place, wherever that may be now."

"Okay." He nodded, standing up straight and a few steps away from me. He looked at my room number and I could tell he was making a mental note of it. Maybe I should get a new one so he didn't know which room I was in. Or get a new hotel all together. "You've got your gun on you right now haven't you?"

"You really think I'd come out here and stand in a hallway, alone, with you and not be armed?" I raised my eyebrows and he smiled, turning and walking away.

"I'll see you tonight princess."

"No you won't."

"Yes. I really will." He turned a corner, leaving out of sight. God he looked good walking away too. Fuck. Sake. Things are getting complicated here too.
