Caya
We wake up the next morning and decide to stay in the forest for a while. We sat at the tree with our kurus still connected from the night before. A few hours pass and we've shared many memories, feelings, and the visions we've experienced through Eywa. Our minds and bodies have been integrated into one.
"Teyam... your vision with your grandfather... It means.." I whisper in disbelief.
He nods and blinks slowly at me. "War... Unlike any other we've ever seen."
"And our role..." My eyes widen and I begin to breathe deeply.
"When the time is right we will go back and take our rightful places as leaders of the Omatikaya. Which means..." He trails off and purses his lips.
"I have to leave my village... my family." I say solemnly.
He looks down at the ground and furrows his brow.
"We will figure it out. If what my grandfather said is true... it seems like our entire planet is at stake... And I have a big bet that it has to do with the Sky People."
"We are not safe until they're all gone." I growl.
"Caya, they're not all bad. But I think our role is in restoring the balance."
"I guess I can't hate all Sky People... or else you would never be here. After all... you are half sky person... somewhere in there." I chuckle and poke his chest teasingly.
He scoffs and side eyes me.
I smile and move the braids hanging in his face behind his ear.
"Nga yawne lu oer Neteyam. We will get through this together...my mate." I sigh as I tilt his chin towards me.
"My mate..." He repeats softly as he scans my face.
"Nga yawne lu oer... Come here." He gently takes my face in his hands and kisses me softly. As we feel everything through our kurus we cannot deny the others' scent as it fills our noses and makes us both go feral.
Hours have now passed, and Eclipse will be approaching soon.Neteyam
I'm holding myself above her as we both lay there panting after the long hours of enjoying and... destroying each other's bodies. Her eyes are still ravenous as they're looking up at me and I am fighting to regain my control.
"Neteyam.. I.." She sighs breathlessly.
"What is it?" I furrow my brow as I begin to brush loose strands away from her face.
"I.. don't want to go back. I have a bad feeling." She says in a small voice. She closes her eyes and breathes deeply as her grip tightens around me.
"I don't either but...we have to go back at some point. It will be okay. Nothing bad is going to happen my love." I whisper as I kiss her face softly.
She looks up at me and nods and we make our way back to the village.
The first thing she does when we get back is run straight into the water. I'm really confused until I dunk my head in to see that she's swimming to the Tulkuns. I jump in and follow her but keep a little distance so I can give her some time with Takana. I watch as she's vigorously signing away, I can hear Takana singing at her and then she begins to do flips. She told her that we mated, and it makes me smile as I'm watching them.Caya
I knew you were going to mate with him.
'Oh yeah?' I sign back teasingly.
Of course! Silly girl. I knew it from the moment I saw you look at him.
My face grew serious as I looked at her.
What is it? Caya?
'There are things I need to show you Takana.'
She blinks, agreeing and begins to open her massive mouth. Inside is lit up like the stars in the night sky.
Your mate is staring at us in horror. You did not explain the bonding process to him? Takana laughs.
'Whoops must have slipped my mind.' I giggle.
I swim back out and see Neteyam gaping at us as his eyes are about to pop out of his head.
I motion for him to come over to me and pull his arm, guiding him inside of Takanas mouth with me.
We swim until I find the glowing gold tendril.
'This is how we make the bond with our Tulkuns.' I sign to him.
He nods. 'I was very confused at what you were doing. I thought she was going to eat you, but this makes sense now.'
I connect my kuru to the glowing tendril and show her what happened with Lau, my vision with my parents, Neteyams vision with his grandfather, and the moment Neteyam and I made Tsaheylu. Immediately she wails, crying out a sad song which became happier to match the visions I was showing her. I disconnect and we swim out. I go to meet her eyes and pat the side of her.
Oh my Caya. I will be having words with Kozo about that.. good for nothing.. ah! She clicks angrily.
'It's fine, I'm okay.' I smile at her as I continue patting her side.
But... your parents. I can't explain how happy I am that you got to talk to BOTH of them! I know how much that meant to you. I could feel all your emotions. I will be writing a song about that moment.
I smile and grab Neteyams hand and place it next to mine on Takana.
She chirps happily as she's looking at him.
He's looking at her in awe, eyes wide with excitement.
He begins to sign at her. 'We are family now, Takana.'
She sings happily and squints her eyes lovingly at him.
Yes Neteyam. We most certainly are. I am so happy that you finally found your way to my Caya.
He turns to look at me, tilting his head, and I sign exactly what she said so he can understand.
He smiles and swims closer to her and puts his cheek next to her eye and gives her a hug.
She's continuing to chirp and sing happily and I can't help but stare at them both with so much love.
You two need to go tell your families. They will be so thrilled to see you mated.
I give her a kiss and motion for Neteyam to follow me to the surface.
We both come up gasping for air.
"What did you show her?" He smiles as he scans my face.
"Everything... besides our intimate moments." I whisper as I pull him closer and rest my arms around his neck.
"Takana sings beautifully, I absolutely adore her." He sighs.
"We should go tell our families now, yeah? Although, I'm sure they all probably figured it out by now." I chuckle.
He rests his nose on mine then pulls away and begins swimming to shore.
"Come, I want to scream it to the world!" He yells with a big grin on his face.
I follow and we quickly swim to the village.
We both ascend from the water hand in hand and head towards everyone.
They're all eating together near a fire, and they turn to stare at us.
"Well?!" Jake and Neytiri yell in unison.
"We are mated before Eywa!" Neteyam beams then he turns his head to face me, and he pulls my hand to his face, and gives it a kiss.
Everyone cheers happily. One by one they come over and give us both congratulatory hugs and kisses. Many tears are being shed from the happiness that was radiating. We pause and all look to the sea and see the Tulkuns singing together in unison while jumping around in the water. I know this is all Takanas doing.
"What are they doing?" Tuk asks in awe.
"They are celebrating Aneti'Caya and Neteyam." My mother answers sweetly as she sniffles.
My father comes up to the both of us, proudly.
"Maite, maitan (my son)." He gazes with all the pride in his eyes. He walks behind us and places his hands on each of our shoulders.
"Everyone! Tonight, we feast in honor of the union between Toruk Maktos' son Neteyam and my daughter Aneti'Caya!" He beams with joy.
The warriors begin sounding off the ceremonial shells which is customary in our Metkayina culture when people are mated.
We go sit between my father and Jake. Tuk comes over and crawls into my lap and looks up at me smiling.
"I'm so happy that you're my sister now!" She puts her little arms around my neck and hugs me close.
"Oh Tuk." I mutter and hold her tight while I look at Neteyam as he's beaming a smile down at both of us.
"I love you and I love you." He kisses my cheek and then goes to leave a kiss on Tuks shoulder as she's resting her head in the crook of my neck.
I let her go and she sits in my lap as we're all eating and talking with each other.
"We have a gift for the both of you." My father leans over to look at us as he side-eyes Jake.
We each shift our eyes from one to the other.
"Well... we kind of figured that you two went off to mate. So..." Jake winks.
"We have you set up with your own marui." My father says heartily.
"Are you guys serious?" Neteyam gasps.
They both grin at each other and nod at us.
"You two should have your own home... and eventually raise a family there." My father sighs with content as he pats the back of Neteyams head.
I'm having shooting pains in my chest as I hear my father say those words. My heart is breaking while watching him be so happy. But he is Olo'eyktan... he would understand why we will eventually have to go. Nevertheless, I keep a happy face on. For all we know it could be years before we have to go.
"Thank you so much Tonowari and dad!" Neteyam belts happily.
Neteyam seems unbothered so maybe I should be too.
"So that's what you two have been up to the whole day?" Neytiri snorts while eyeing my mother. I feel as if these two have their own unspoken language now.
Our fathers both roll their eyes and scoff at her.
"Will you leave us alone! We're just excited for the kids." Jake retorts, laughing as he grabs her face and leaves a kiss on her cheek.
The rest of the night continues and our parents are telling stories of when they were younger and how they fell in love. It's strange when you remember that they too were just like us.
"It was love at first sight." Jake chuckles.
"I was going to kill him... but then the Great Mother sent a sign." Neytiri sighs while rolling her eyes.
Listening to Jake and Neytiris story brought tears to my eyes. They truly are amazing, and they went through so much. They also told us how they came to adopt Kiri as their own while they talked fondly about her mother Grace. She seemed like a great woman.
The night comes to an end and everyone goes their separate ways and we're shown to our marui.
I step in and Neteyam follows behind me. I sigh as I'm looking around and I feel him snake his arms around my waist. He kisses my cheek and rests his chin on my shoulder. A smile creeps up on my face as I feel his breath on my neck.
"So.. do you think we should go to bed, mate?" He whispers huskily in my ear. I nod and he picks me up and carries me to our bed. He then lays me down and props himself up on his elbow next to me while trailing his fingers along my scar.
"Teyam.." I mutter as I look up at him.
"What is it?" He furrows his brow, concerned.
"This bad feeling... I still have it." I huff, worriedly.
He lays down and hugs me tight to him. "I'm sure whatever it is, will be okay. You are probably just having some anxiety from our visions. Just relax and try to get some sleep my love."
I nuzzle into him, his scent calms me down with each breath I take. Finally the feeling goes away and I fall asleep.
