"Audrey? Are you up yet?" Her mother yelled through her door. Audrey stirred, but didn't wake. "Jesus, Audrey, it's past noon!"

She painfully opened her eyes and saw her mother opening her door, stepping around the mess in her room to put a gentle hand on Audrey's shoulder. "Mmph." Audrey groaned.

"I know. It's hard being a teenager in the summer with no responsibilities." Her mother said, beginning to tidy her daughter's room, throwing dirty clothes into the hamper and taking empty cups and bowls in her hands. "There's lunch downstairs."

"M'kay... thanks, I'll eat in a sec." She yawned as her mother left, and she sat up, rubbed her eyes, and listened to her mother's footsteps travel across the hallway to Nathan's room and she suddenly remembered...

Last night.

Oh, god.

Was that a dream? A really really good dream?

She dragged her finger over her lip like Rafe had just twelve hours ago.

Yes. It was definitely real.

The sound of a motorcycle engine revving outside took her from her thoughts, and throwing on a sweatshirt she moved to the bathroom to wash up before lunch.

Downstairs, only her mother and father remained, out at their deck table, eating sandwiches and talking business. Not exactly the topic of conversation that Audrey liked.

"Where are Nathan and Rafe?" She asked, grabbing the pitcher of lemonade and pouring herself a glass.

"Golfing. Where else?" Her father teased. "But later they're getting suits for Midsummer."

"Midsummer? It's already midsummer?" She complained. She absolutely adored midsummer but hated that it meant summer was already halfway over. It also meant it was that much closer to her eighteenth birthday.

"Well, yes, next weekend. We were talking about it last night at dinner." Her mother explained. Well, no shit Audrey didn't hear it. She spent all of dinner drooling over Rafe.

Rafe.

What was he doing to her?

Audrey hadn't seen Rafe that whole next week. She spent a day with Sarah to go dress shopping, and another day with the pogues, but the days in between were spent alone or with her family, which was okay. She liked quiet.

Except, she couldn't help but feel a little upset that she hadn't heard from Rafe. Many times she found herself tapping onto their text thread to start a chat, but she figured she'd rather not. She had nothing to say really.
