"I'm not saying he was out of line..." Audrey heard a voice behind her. "But he totally ruined Midsummer."
"One hundred percent. Best party of the summer? Ruined." Another voice came.
"I don't think so." A boy's voice started. "He was hitting on Audrey. She's seventeen. That alone is enough to get beaten up. Let alone the fact that she told him to stop and he didn't."
"Wait really?" The first voice came. "Oh I didn't know that."
"Still ruined my favorite party of the year."
With that. Audrey had had enough. She'd been at this party for twenty minutes already and had only come across one friend, and that was Gabby.
To be honest she wanted to see Rafe, but she wasn't sure if he was at the party yet. She hadn't seen him since he climbed off of her balcony.
But she knew that if he was here, he'd be one of two places. The basement, or in a bedroom with a random hookup. She prayed that it was the former.
But she was giving him space. She didn't want to admit that she was getting needy for him.
Sarah wasn't anywhere to be found, nor were Topper and Kelce, so she went to the bar for a refill.
Once her cup was topped off by the sweet girl working the bar, she turned around to be greeted by–for the second time that night–Josh and his posse.
"Audrey." He said with a fake smile plastered on his bruised face. "Wouldn't expect you to show up."
"Your face..." She said skeptically. "Was that-"
"Rafe. Of course." He said in a fake happy tone. "By the way... while we're on the subject... tell him to back off."
"Back off of what?" She groaned.
"Of whatever his obsession is with getting in the way between us."
"Josh." She said confidently. "There is no us."
"But-"
"But it's true, Josh." She raised her eyebrows to emphasize her point. "It's the truth."
He kept his composure, all of his friends behind him and the crowd around the bar. His previously hurt face flashed a smile again. "One last dance?" He said.
She rolled her eyes and scoffed. "You really just can't take no for an answer, can you?" She snapped, backing away from him. She didn't feel so bad. She liked Josh, maybe not for his personality, it was all looks. But she did like him, she just liked Rafe more. "I don't want you, Josh. Sorry if that bruises your ego." She shrugged and walked out of the room.
"There you are!" Sarah said happily when Audrey walked into the room. "I was starting to think you weren't going to show."
"I'm second guessing my decision." She rolled her eyes and slumped onto the couch, staring at the ceiling. "Your cousin really is a piece of work, huh?"
"All of the Cameron boys are." Sarah scoffed. "He's no different than Rafe, not that that's a good thing."
They heard yelling and cheering from outside. She peeked around the corner, and through the window, saw a game of cup pong being played next to the pool.
"There's pong?" Audrey said happily. "Count me in. I need to get good and drunk. You want to play?"
Sarah shook her head. "No, I'm good here. But go."
Audrey walked out to the porch, where Gabby and her boyfriend, Jeremy, were playing against Rafe and Bri, the same blonde from Tyler's party.
Rafe had the pong ball in his hand, still looking just as good as he had an hour ago, calculating the winning shot and tossing it. It sunk perfectly, he laughed and shrugged it off like it was nothing. Audrey opened the door, just in time for Bri to lazily lay against Rafe, brushing her arm against his chest and congratulating him. "Oh Rafe, I knew it was a good idea to pick you as my partner."
Rafe leaned away from her a little, turning his head to see Audrey walking down the porch steps. He immediately pushed Bri away at the sight of Audrey approaching Gabby. She was going to ask her to be her partner next, when Bri called out.
"Oh, Rafe, look who it is." Bri said, leaning her elbow onto Rafe's shoulder. "Did you see that last shot? He's so good at this game, isn't he?" Rafe smiled and shrugged. Audrey rolled her eyes and turned away. "Rafe, does your girlfriend want a drink?" Bri smiled, holding out a cup for Audrey.
Audrey walked over and reached her hand out across Rafe for the cup. "He's not my boyfriend but, sure." But Rafe grabbed the cup first, tilting it up to his mouth as he smiled at Audrey.
"She's good." He replied to Bri.
Audrey glared at him. She could tell that Rafe was clearly enjoying the jealousy radiating off of her.
"He's not your boyfriend?" Bri pouted fakely at Audrey. "Aw, I'm sorry. So he's free tonight?"
Rafe coughed, a little shocked at her boldness but also clearly not interested. Audrey rolled her eyes and turned away, like she was going to walk back to Gabby when Bri continued.
"Sorry, Rafe and I are partners this time. Maybe next round!" Bri smiled, and Rafe didn't disagree. He gave Audrey a look like he was waiting to see what she'd do next.
Audrey had just about enough of his antics, and wanted to get Bri off of him, and an idea popped into her head that was sure enough to get her and Rafe alone. Leaning on the table and looking at him, her hand accidentally slipped, knocking a full solo cup onto his lap, spilling the liquid all over his pants.
"Oh my god, Rafe." She said fakely and used a couple fingers to wipe some stray drops from his pants, rubbing over his zipper where she felt him twitch.
He didn't reply, but watched intently with a heaving chest and pleasing eyes. To watch a man as big and tall as Rafe look down at her with eyes like that was such a thrill.
"I'm so sorry." She looked up at him through her eyelashes, bringing her fingers to her lips and sucking the liquid off.
He took a deep breath and swallowed, looking at her with his mouth open. "You want to go get this cleaned up?" He grabbed her wrist and began to pull her away before she even replied.
"Absolutely." She replied, turning back and seeing Bri watch, mouth open with shock and disgust as Rafe pulled Audrey into the house.
