Audrey knew she'd been taken to security, and was asked questions and tended to there, but she didn't totally regain her consciousness until she was sitting on the bathroom counter of the club, surrounded by Sarah and loads of makeup.
She slid her tongue around her mouth, recognizing the harsh taste that had consumed it.
"Did..." Audrey looked around at her environment and clothes. "Did I throw up?"
Sarah nodded slowly, like she didn't want Audrey to know the truth. "A lot."
Audrey whined and leaned her head on the mirror. "Where?"
"Don't worry. It was the toilet." Sarah explained, taking a tissue to Audrey's eyes and wiping away tears, also blotting different kinds of makeup over her face to hide her puffy eyes and swollen cheeks. "What even happened?"
"There was a guy..." Audrey tried to remember, "And he was being...aggressive... towards me. JJ tried to step in but you know... Rafe had to go all... Rafe."
Sarah sighed and closed up the mascara she'd just put onto Audrey, her own eyes looked like they were welling up. "I don't know if I should be mad or appreciative towards Rafe." She pouted her lips in the mirror, oiling them up with some gloss. "He had the right idea... I think, right?"
"Wrong execution." Audrey said, the pair of them nodding. Audrey hopped off of the counter, staring at herself in the mirror. She looked worn out and tired. Was there seriously still an after party? No way she had the energy to show up to that, mingle with people that had just witnessed the whole fight, and most importantly, see Rafe.
And by the time they emerged from the bathroom, the only people remaining at Midsummer were the elderly people, who were sitting on wicker chairs and sipping their decaf coffees, while watching workers like JJ clean up.
Audrey stopped to wave at JJ, but his boss quickly slapped his head, putting him right back on track to hose down the blood-stained grass.
Sarah drove her back home, and her house was empty when she got there. Apparently before Audrey had become completely conscious, she'd talked to her family and assured them she was okay. Of course, Sarah had to tell her all of this because she had no recollection. But now, her brother was already at the after party, and her parents were at the adults after party, so Sarah helped her get out of her intricate dress and into a tank top and hipster-style underwear.
"You really don't want to come?" Sarah asked for the fourth time already.
Audrey shook her head throwing some dirty clothes into her hamper. "I don't want to see everyone. Especially Rafe."
Sarah nodded in understanding. "So... if I go... is that... a problem?"
"Not at all." Audrey smiled. "Please. Go." She said, putting her makeup into the correct drawers and cleaning up any other imperfections that were stopping her room from being tidy. The last thing she needed was to sit at home alone in a dirty room.
"Okay." Sarah turned to the door, twisting the knob and turning back around, "You're sure?"
"Get the fuck out of here." Audrey said seriously and gave her friend another smile, before she disappeared behind the wooden door.
But just as quickly as the door shut, she heard a knock, which made her confused, hadn't she just left? Audrey went to her door anyway, as she was opening she realized her lack of clothing. She hadn't even been wearing pants. But no one was on the other side of the door. She looked down each way of the hallway, still, no one was there.
