A Lukanette Love Story

Chapter 12

       Marinette hesitates, not sure that she is ready for this conversation. She looks at Luka's pleading face and sighs, "Okay Luka, let's go upstairs to talk." She says. They take off their helmets and put them in the bike basket and she waits for Luka to put his bike next to the Bakery shop. They walk in and say hello to her parents and grab a quick snack before making their way up to Marinette's room.

       Once they make it up to her room, Marinette stands kind of awkwardly in the middle not sure what to do. Luka pauses once inside and takes a moment to look around her room, he's never been in here before, it's nice, very Marinette. He makes his way over to her desk chair and sits down. Marinette sees him sit down and makes her way over to her chaise lounge and sits, she pulls her knees up to her chest and wraps her arms around them and she waits for Luka to speak.

       Luka sees her closed off body language and sighs internally, he pulls the chair closer to where she is sitting, "Marinette," he says softly, "I know that you have been having a difficult time lately, that there is a secret that is burdening you." He sees her shift uncomfortably at his words. "I know what the secret is Marinette."

       Her eyes widen at his words, there's no way he could know, she thinks to herself, she has been so so very careful at keeping her identity a secret, unless....

       "Do you remember the day that Ladybug and Chat Noir had to face the Live Your Dreams villain? And they also recruited a third hero to help, Viperion? Well as you may know from when everyone was attack by Queen Wasp and was forced to reveal their identities, I am Viperion." He watches her reaction. She stiffens and feigns shock, "Really? I totally forgot. That's really cool!"

       Luka sighs and shakes his head, "Marinette, I was there that day, with the Live Your Dreams villain. I know that you are Ladybug and I know that you asked me if I saw your identity and I told you no. I lied that day because I could see how the thought of someone knowing, terrified you. But lately it seems that having someone not know, is hurting you worse than if someone did." He finishes speaking and watches her reaction.

       Marinette's eyes were huge and she was trembling slightly. Of course, he knew, even if nobody could remember her identity being revealed, because of Viperion's ability to reset time, he is able to remember every timeline he resets. She didn't know if she should be angry that he lied or relieved that someone other than Alya knew. All she did know is that it was one more person at risk and that's what worried her.

       "Please Luka, y..you..c..can't...y..you.. shouldn't know. This puts you at risk Luka, p..please." Her voice was shaking. Luka moves from his chair to her chaise lounge and wraps his arms around her. "Marinette, please let me be here for you, don't shut me out again. I know that you are Ladybug, shouldn't that bring you some relief? One less person to hide from." He asks with sincerity in his voice.

       "But what if you get akumatized again Luka? It could end up being mine and Chat Noir's downfall..." She perks up realizing something, "Wait, if you know my identity, does that mean you saw Chat Noir's too?" Excitement and worry conflicting on her face. Luka nods his head, Marinette groans. "Don't you see the problem? You know both of our identities, if Monarch ever gets ahold of you...." She trails off with a look of horror on her face.

       "Marinette, breathe. The only reason I got akumatized before is because I felt like I was being lied too. But now that I know the truth, I think I will have better control over my emotions. I've seen what happens to our friends when they show no fear, the akuma's don't attack them. I ask that you trust me now to have you and Chat Noir's back and keep your secret." Luka says, his eyes imploring her to trust him, his arms still firm around her.

       Marinette closes her eyes and takes a deep breath; she tries to imagine the benefit of having him know and surprisingly a whole world of possibilities and opportunities come flooding to her mind. She feels a sense of comfort and relief at the thought of him knowing. She still has some worry in the back of her mind, but it still feels like a weight has been lifted. She relaxes against Luka and nods her head "I trust you Luka." She replies.
