Chloe and Me

Chapter 12

Hi everyone, sorry for the slow update. I got a bit sick of writing but I'm back into it now! I hope you like the chapter.

We play all day. I ditch my crutches and limp around. We build shelters and play hide and seek. Leo loves playing too. He jumps and leap as we play. I'm having the best day.
My tummy growling fiercely, I call out to Chloe and Juki "Let's make a big dinner! I'm starving. " They both agree, even Leo perks his head up and runs over.

Wind blowing, tummies rumbling Juki, Chloe and I start to prepare a huge meal for our begging stomachs. "Leo, go catch us some meat!" Chloe instructs. Leo seems to understand what she's saying and he runs off. "Make fire? " Juki asks.
"Great idea." I say. "I'll do that." I hop over to a dead tree and snap the skinny twigs off. I collect a small bundle and stack them neatly in a criss cross pattern ready to light for our fire. I'm looking forward to the warmth. It's getting into the late afternoon and I'm quite cold. I search my jacket pocket and find the matches. After 3 swipes, the match alights and I put it under the pile of twigs. Soon, we have a blazing fire. Flames up to my knees.

Leo returns with two big, dead and rather floppy birds in his mouth. Juki claps and pats him. Juki then, to Chloe and my surprise plucks them both and pulls the guts out! Ewww. I pretend to vomit and Chloe laughs. As the birds cook over the fire, Chloe and I start making a berry salad. Juki and Leo are playing hide and seek again! We collect berries from the bushes Juki showed us earlier. They vary in sizes and colours. My favourite berry tastes like strawberries but it is blue and rather spiky to touch. In the end we have a big mixture. Blue, red, green, yellow and brown. I hope they all taste good! We put them on a piece of bark like a serving platter. Chloe turns the birds over so they can roast on the other side, they look delicious!
I hear laughing and Juki and Leo appear, their legs speeding through the trees. It's nearly dark so I can't see what they've got but I can tell its big. Juki walks over to the fire and shows us. He is all wet, but in his arms is a massive fish! All gutted and scaleless too!

I have no idea how long Juki has been alone out here, but the way he acts makes it seem like forever.

After a delicious meal and some funny stories we all sit back and watch the stars. Juki explains in broken English how it is not usually like this. Tonight it is absolutely incredible out here. The stars are splayed out across the whole sky, purplish and blue. I've never experienced such a view. Chloe gets up whispering to me that she needs to pee. I wait for her to return and Juki says goodnight. "You can stay for night." I thank him and he climbs up into the tree tops. Chloe comes back, she sounds like a heard of elephants! It's so quiet out here. We quietly talk about home and a tear escapes my eye, floating down my tired face. "I miss home." My eyes flutter slowly shut and Leo crawls in next to me. I listen to the wind blowing in the trees and Chloe's breathing suggests to me that she's already asleep. I hear a howling, could it be Leo's family? I secretly hope they don't want him back. I question my thoughts and a reassuring one comes into my mind. He doesn't have a family, we found him alone and starving. He can stay with us for now.
