I hug Tyler and say a teary goodbye to Mum and Dad. "I will miss you all so much, but don't worry about me. I am going on an adventure of a lifetime. " Chloe was coming, to pick me up and her Mum was dropping us at the airport, 20 minutes away. Their rusty old wagon pulled up on the nature strip outside and I gave everyone a big hug, "See you guys soon, I'll Skype you when we get there. " I run outside and wave goodbye, I am so excited. It takes us half an hour to get to the airport, a bit longer than expected but the traffic was heavy and our plane doesn't leave for another hour, 9:00pm. We go over to the desk and get our passports and tickets checked. All good. Chloe's mum, Sandra, kisses us goodbye and we sit at the cafeteria. We order hot chocolates and a piece of cake to share and talk about our travels, where we shall go and what we might do. This is going to be so much fun!Chloe
"Qantas flight 276 now boarding at platform 7." We hear our flight being called so we line up in the queue. I've only ever been on a plane once before when I was 5 so I can't remember much. We climb up the big stairs and walk on board. We find our seats, F6 and F7. We sit down and just as I start to feel comfy I remember, I forgot to say goodbye to Charles, our Labrador. He was staying over at the vet and I hadn't said goodbye. Lucy looks over, "What's wrong?" She asked, "Homesick already?"
"No, it's just I forgot to say goodbye to the dog. I'll miss him." I sigh.
"Oh well, suck on this sour chew while we take off, I usually get blocked ears." I take the lolly gratefully and look out the window. We are going up and up into the sky, soon we are above the clouds and down below is like a white blanket. Lucy is the most amazing friend anyone could have!
" Thanks so much Lucy, this is already amazing!"Lucy
As we land I slowly wake up, we've been travelling for around 15 hours and I'm starving. We must have been asleep when the food trolley came past. I check my watch, it's 12:00pm. I shake Chloe awake and say, "We're here! We are actually here!" Out the window is the most amazing thing I have ever seen, a vast landscape of red, dry dirt and a few mountains. Wow. Africa is amazing. Did I ever suspect that I would be in Africa with best friend alone at 15? No! We get out of the plane exhausted. Finding our bags was tricky, as a man got mine confused with his. I saw him walking of with it so I ran after him! " Wait!" I yelled. "That's my bag!"
After about half an hour we had been checked by the sniffer dogs and we were in the taxi which was taking us to a hotel in Johannesburg. Our holiday was about to begin.Chloe
Our apartment definitely meets my expectations. I unlock the door and go into the kitchen, we have a view out into the city, it's lovely. I make Lucy and I a salad sandwich with the supplies we picked up at the shops on the way here. "Thanks Chloe." I hear Lucy yell from the lounge. I join her with my sandwich and switch the TV on. The 3:00 news is on and there has been a big earthquake in New Zealand. I look at Lucy, I hope everyone over there is okay. I fall asleep and I think Lucy does too. We are in Africa, wow.If anyone is reading this please let me know! I want to know if there are people ( other than my friends) reading my book!
