Chapter 22

9 days later...
Lucy
My eyes feel as though they are heavy like bricks. I heave them open and take a deep breath, staring at the bright lights surrounding me. I hear beeping machines and humming noises. A lady in a white coat runs in and says something, more people come in with white coats on, tools in hand. I get scared. What are they doing? The lady who I saw before, comes over and prods at something in my arm. "Hello? Lucy? You're finally awake!" Her voice is so quiet, it sounds so quite like the woman is in another world. I try to sit up to get closer to her, to see if she is real but her strong arms push me back down. "Stay there Lucy, you are slowly recovering now. " The voice quietly says. I decide to answer. "H-h-hello. " I mumble a few words but blackness falls over me and I fall asleep, again.

Jacki-Lucy's mum
The phone rings and I immediately recognise the number. It's the hospital. My heart beat picks up and I press the green phone button to answer. "Hello, Jacki speaking. "
"Hi Jacki, it's the Royal Children's hospital here. We have news for you, Lucy woke up today and she seemed quite dazed. She then fell back unconscious. I'm glad to tell you that these are signs of good recovery for Lucy. "
I am so glad to hear this. Lucy is finally, finally, getting better. "Thank you so much, " I say, "Goodbye." The line disconnects and I am left with a beeping sound. Beep-beep-beep-beep. I hang up my phone.
"Adam!" I shout up the stairs "Tyler! Lucy's getting better!"

In Chloe's hospital room
"Maybe she'll wake up today, what do you guys think?" John asks
"I doubt it. She had a bigger concussion than Lucy, she will probably wake up in a few days. " Kaitlin says
"As soon as she's fully awake we need to ring her friends, they are planning a surprise for her. " Sandra says. A sudden beeping causes her to jump. "What's that?" Sandra shrieks. Kaitlin looks down at the flashing device hanging around her waist. "Room 43, Lucy's room!" Kaitlin and John rush out of the room, leaving Sandra with Chloe.

Lucy
Like last time, I have to try so hard to open my eyes, I finally do and see flashing lights and hear beeping noises, alarms, all going off around me. People rush in, a lady comes over to my side. "Who are you?" I ask. A big grin appears on her face and it makes me smile too, but it hurts. "I'm doctor Kaitlin." she replies. A doctor? I'm in a hospital?! How did that happen?
I see a familiar face and Mum runs in. "Lucy! Oh Lucy, I missed you so much."
Tears are pouring down her face, she's sad? Maybe happy? I don't know. The strange thing is she doesn't come over. "Come here Mum." I ask
"Oh darling, I'm sorry but I can't. You still aren't fully better and only nurses and doctors are allowed close to you." Mum says. Oh, I must be pretty sick.
Suddenly I have an urge to know what's going on .
"Wait," I say as Mum starts to walk out the door. "Where are you going?"
"To get the others. " she smiles and walks out.
I look around and realise I am in hospital, coughing I stare, I have a broken leg!
Well my leg is plastered all the way up to my hip. Then I remember; Africa, writing competition, lion, Juki, Chloe. "Chloe and Juki" I repeat in a whisper. "Where are they?"
